    Keeping Busy

Well, things are moving along pretty smoothly.  We will have a huge amount of trash put out for collection tonight for the guys tomorrow.  I'm sure they will love us, but the basement is showing progress.  I ordered the bi-fold door I wanted for the doorway going upstairs.  I still cannot find a resonably priced sofa sleeper -- but I'm still working on it.  I read Danielle Steele's book "Sister's" which I loved and am halfway through James Patterson's "You've Been Warned."  It sure dosen't seem like one of his type books.  More like Stephen King wrote it.  But it's good.

We've been putting up the flyers for the Benefit for Eric's Classroom at school which will be held on February 15.  It is a Rock n Bowl event with a band.  They are charging admission which will go to the school and there are raffles and such.  I feel confident we will get enough for the stoller that will make things easier for the teahers and more comfortable and fun for the little ones.

We got some great coupons in the mail for the Country Buffet and since I got them at work too, there is enough for all of us to afford to go out to dinnner on Friday.

Jaime will arrive Saturday with a friend, to bring his belongings here and head back on Sunday.  He wants to be in NY for the Super Bowl game since he has to work one more week, and will be staying that week with a friend.  Then we get the pleasure of his company for 3 weeks.  Now this should be interesting --  3 of my children living once again at home.  Even if it is for 3 weeks.  Wonder if he will do any cooking.  Kev Jr. will be heading for Florida with Jamie and the kids on Feb 5th, to go to Disneyland.  Lucky them.  They will be gone for a week and had better bring back some fabulous pictures.  Jamie being a photographer kind of assures that right?

My dad gave us a huge turkey when we were there at Christmas and I'm thinking of having a family dinner maybe the 3rd weekend of Feburary to get us all together before Jamie leaves for California.  Now that will be funa and will definately break up the monotany of winter for me.  Part of the fun will be Jaime and I in the kitchen together.  Entertainment for the whole family.

February will be here in a few days -- and hopefully a bit warmer weather.  I'm not asking for much, but high 40's would be acceptable for me.  Eye-rolling  I'm hoping you are all well keeping yourselves busy.  Take care!

    Miss me did ya?

Where have I been you ask?  Nowhere in particular.  Working, reading, watching tv - keeping warm.

I had a call from Jaime at the beginning of the week.  He is heading out to spend a year or so in Orange County in California come March.  He's very excited about it.  Only one glitch.  His lease is up the first of February and he cannot sign another lease with his roomates, because he won't be able to keep the commitment because of his opportunity to go to California.  He might be headed this way to stay the month of February and work temporarily for one of his former employers.  He is examining some options to stay in NYC for the month, but if they don't work out, he will be coming here.  I'm kind of glad -- once he moves across the country, I know that I will see even less of him than I do now.

For me, that means I have to get moving finishing the den area upstairs so he will have a space of his own while he is here.  That really isn't much - some new curtains, a sleep sofa or something similiar needs to be priced and bought.  Hm -- that's about it I guess.

For today, we have picked another area of the basement to work on cleaning out.  I wonder what teasure of the past we will unearth today.  It's still very cold here and shows no sign of warrming up, so that will be a good chore to keep me out of the cold.  I'm particually wishing hubby would clean and orgainze his workshop down there.  The assorted tools, paint cans and the air compresser -- yes, air compresser - taking up space in the mudroom up here is annoying.  I'm going to finish getting togeher all of my old magazines.  I have a few years worth of Coastal Living, Cottage Living, and a few other favorites that I want to gather together.  I saw on e-bay they are going for some good money for back issues.  Maybe I can make some extra cash that way.  They are in top notch condition, most only read once so we'll see.  It will give me something else to do with myself during these hated cold months.

I was hoping once again to no avail to avoid the blues and down feelings I get during these months, but like every winter they seem to hang on to me.  Before they arrive I plan so many things to do, hoping to escape the rut I get myself into, only to find that no matter how hard I try, I lack motivation.  I am a homebody, and the gray, dreary skies and cold just puts me off.  Which only makes me dissatisfied with myself even more.   I guess on the bright side -- I keep trying.    And come spring -- most of my "spring cleaning" will be done already.  That will give me more time to get out and enjoy the sun and warm weather.

Nic was given a treadmill by a friend of hers who got a new one.  We are adding that to the excercise bike and fixing up an area of the basement to get some exercise.  As a friend of mine recently commented -- the exercise bike would make too good of a clothes hanger upstairs here.  Yep, good point.

On that note, I guess I'll get my day started.  Eric is raisng havoc and everyone is starting to get up and around.  Take care all!

    How's 3:00 Jane?

Ummmm ... Isn't the first sip of coffee just fabulous in the morning?   Well, I really tried to go back to sleep, but it just wasn't working.  Then I thought of how nice a cup of coffee would be and it was really hopeless.   Hey, while I'm on the subject of coffee, I want to ask my coffee lovin friends out there if they have tried Gevalia Coffee.  It's the kind that is advertised with the free coffeemaker.  I guess you have to buy at least 3 bags of their coffee - the price averaging from 4.95 to 7.95 and then you can cancel.  (like the bookclubs)  I've seen their ad around for a long time and I've often wanted to try it.  I'm thinking that I do treat myself occasionally to a bag of Dunkin Donut coffee (I'm not a Starbucks fan as it's too strong for me) for 5.99 so the prices aren't bad.  And the coffeemaker dosen't look bad, although if it is, it's free, kinda - so.  I've almost gotten myself talked into it, but I would hate to do it if the coffee isn't good.  Anybody hear of it or try it?  Let me know.  If you haven't CLICK HERE to check it out.  I found it in a magazine article, but they do have a website.

Next week will be quite an interesting week.  I work for a small company with 6 full time employees (myself and Kevin included) and a part time driver.  The owner and 3 sales guys will be heading for New York City for a 3 day conference.  They leave at 10:00 a.m. Monday and will return Thursday morning.  That leaves Kevin, myself and Paul to run the company for 3 days.  Yep, this ought to be really ineresting.

We are distributers for Heating and Air Ventilation Equipment.  We distribute mostly commercial equipment for contractors who work on schools, department stores, - big jobs.  Our sales guys are engineers.  Now I know some of the part numbers from being there so long, but if you ask me to go out in the warehouse to find them -- hell I'd be wandering aroud out there all day.  I mean what the hell is a 14" round????  Round what?  Or a 6" 90?  And the 90's come in short or long (I think it's the 90's that do that) -- I guess I could hold them next to each other and one would be long and one short, that is if I knew what a  90 was to begin with.  What does a diffuser look like?  And I think I know what a damper is - maybe.  And elbows are easy - they are shaped like the maccoroni.  Now furnace filters.... I have them down pat, just tell me the size you need.  I'm very lucky Kevin is the warehouse guy and knows what it is, but what happens if he is busy?  And Paul only works mornings and is on deliveries most of the time.  Neither Kevin, nor Paul can handle the computer, so I can do the sales orders, and look up inventory - if they make sure I have the right part number.  And if someone comes in with blueprints, looking to build a system?  Guess they will have to come back huh?  Oh yes my friends, this is going to be interesting.  Not impossible, because I know that my boss has complete faith in us.  But very, interesting.  And to think I was hired as a bookkeeper.  Yep, Yes I was.

Oh and add to that - I will be watching Eric for an hour at work on Tuesday while Nikki has a dental appointment.  Because we are a small company and are kinda like family to each other, it's not unusual to see someones kids or grandkids hanging about the office sometimes.  Scot's son Tanner is notorious for turning up speakers to to their highest setting and scaring the pants off people when the computer yells "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!"   --- We've peeled each other off the ceiling quite a few times.  You'd think we'd know to check our speakers when he is around.

Well, lets see if I can get this old computer of mine to work enough to get some visiting done around here.  All of you have a great weekend.  Me - I'm just gonna stay warm and cook.  Temps are so low they are practically non-existant, and everyting outside is frozen solid, probably including my car.  Take care all!

    Many, many rambles

I woke up to even more snow this morning, after a nice "dusting" yesterday.  Not too much, but I guess more is supposed to  come later today.  It's been flurrying steady as it is.

I've added pictures of Baby Kevin's party.  It was fun and as usual it was good to see the family all gathered in one place.  Eric still wasn't feeling well, but he managed to have some fun in the bouncy bounce and eat a few cheese doodles before Nik took him home to rest.  Poor little guy.    Kevin managed a trip to the Dr.'s yesterday (Monday) morning, and discovered he has bronchitis so he's on an antibiotic and inhaler and is home today.  I really don't remember a time when so many of us were sick at once.  Nik and I are hanging in there while everyone else has something going on.  Daniel was running a fever last night and got called into work (snowplowing) and he insisted on going.  Guess he's sleeping this morning.  Poor Nik -- I escaped to work.  Oh and Charlie seems to be ok now as well.

You will notice in the pictures of baby Kevin's party that I titled one Beach Boy and another Beach girl.  They each got a beach towel with their name on it and a matching beach bag with their names(handmade) from their aunt on Jamie's side.  They are going to Florida next month on vacation and taking in Disney as well.  Kaelynn loved the attention and present for her too.

I'm cheering like crazy over my Chargers -- they pulled off beating the Colts.  Poor Charlie is moaning over his Cowboys though.  Wouldn't it be fabulous if the Chargers became the champs against all odds?

I'm so sorry I haven't been around much lately.  As I've said before, January is a dull slow month and other than snow and Baby Kevin's birthday, working and good old chores there isn't much to say.  Grace I wish I would have went to Mexico with ya -- I love Margarita's too!  Would have broken up this dull month that's for sure.

UFO Sightings in Texas huh?  Click here for the story.  Now that sounds like it might be interesting.  I mean why not?  We could be aliens to other people right?  I would love to see a UFO -- scary and exciting at the same time.  My luck they would beam me up and puzzle over me for the next 50 years.

    Saturday

Nothing much new -- I'm just getting ready to put on my headphones and rock out while I do the housework.  It's great entertainment for my family..LOL!  Kevin thinks I should apply to star in the Memorex Commercials.  The one where the ladys voice breaks the glass.   Smart aleck.....

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Just checking in...

What a wonderful treat Tuesday was.  It reached 60 degrees here (kind of strange with all the snow around).  Yesterday was another nice one and now the temps go back to normal.  Yep, nothing like a little teaser to remind you that winter isn't forever.  Although sometimes it feels that way.

The family is on the mend for the most part.  Lingering coughs for Kev and I.  Nik didn't get her wisdom tooth pulled as it was infected and she is on pennicillin.  Probably tomorrow will be the magic day.  Daniel is having outpatient surgery as soon as they can schedule it, for his kidney stone.  The doctor feels it has gone on long enough without passing and wishes to take care of it.  Nik took Eric to the doctors for the second time last night, as he still gets a fever in the evenings.  He still has a cough and his breathing is a bit labored which has us a bit concerned.  He is fine throughout the day - laughing, playing and such.  It's just in the evening he seems to not feel well.  Anway - the doctor discovered that added to the cold he has an ear infection.  My poor little man.  How miserable he must be.

Can anyone tell me why, when I finally discover something I like, or something that works for me the powers that be discontinue it???  I cannot tell you how many times that has happened to me.  It's very tramatic you know.  This time it's the Robitussin Honey Almond Cough drops.  I cannot find them anywhere and when I went to the web to order them, I find that they are not available.  WTF -- they are great with the liquid center and such and THEY WORK!  Stops cough!  I cannot even find them in Lemon Honey with the honey center.  No more liquid center cough drops.  They were the best.

Does anyone remember the Wise Dizzy Doodles?  I ate them all the time.  Could go through 1 bag in a day.  (yes, I know that's not heathy, but they were an addiction, so I have an excuse).  They were the same as the Cheese doodles, but had a buttery flavor to them.  Yummy.  THEY DISCONTINUED THEM!

Some of the other things escape me because I am so worked up now about the cough drops.  Has this happened to anyone else or is it only me this happens to?

Not much new is going on in the North Country.  January is a slow and quiet month.  No wonder bears hibernate.  There isn't anything else to do.  So, guess I'll just leave you with this blonde joke.  My father in law sends them to me all the time, back from the time I decided to find out if blondes really do have more fun.  I'm no longer blonde but he sends them anyway.  You all take care!

    WINTER BLONDE

As a trucker stops for a red light, a blonde catches up. She jumps out of her car, runs up to his truck, and knocks on the door.

The trucker lowers the window, and she says 'Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load.'

The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street.

When the truck stops for another red light, the girl catches up again.
She jumps out of her car, runs up and knocks on the door.

Again, the trucker lowers the window. As if they've never spoken, the blonde says brightly, 'Hi my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!'

Shaking his head, the trucker ignores her again and continues down the street.

At the third red light, the same thing happens again.

All out of breath, the blonde gets out of her car, runs up, knocks on the truck door. The trucker rolls down the window. Again she says 'Hi, my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!'

When the light turns green the trucker revs up and races to the next light.

When he stops this time, he hurriedly gets out of the truck, and runs back to the blonde.

He knocks on her window, and after she lowers it, he says...

'Hi, my name is Kevin, it's winter   in  New York and I'm driving the SALT TRUCK!'

    Hot Toddy Anyone?

I was really hoping I would wake up this morning feeling better.  What actually happened was that I had to get out of bed due to aching muscles, runny nose, cough and a massive headache.  Kev is sick as well, and little Eric has started coughing.  Some weekend huh?  I downed a bottle of water waiting for my coffee.  Yes, I know it should be tea or some other such healthy drink, but I love my coffee so there ya have it.  The Advil has taken awaysome of the body aches and headache, but nothing is helping the runny nose.   Actually I'm grateful for the runny nose, as I have a hisory of sinus troubles.  A runny nose is good compared to a sinus headache.  I have to babysit today, as Nik has an appointment to get her wisdom tooth out.  Poor girl....damn are we a mess or what?  Jay you know that someone taking care of me is completely out of the question.  Moms and wives are not allowed to get sick.  I took a roast out of the freezer last night to put in the crock pot today because I know everyone will want to know what's for dinner just as some of my medication is wearing off.  And there is soup on hand for poor Nik - that is if she even feels like eating.  Wisdom tooth removals are no picnic.  I'd rather have my cold.

Next Sunday is baby Kevin's 1st birthday party.  He actually turned one on Dec. 20th, but because there are so many family members to invite and Jamie rented a hall for the party, they wanted to wait till after the holiday's to celebrate.  Kaelynns birthday is in June and the weather is usally fabulous so she has her party outside where there is plenty of room for everyone.  Can't do that with the baby, and that many people will not fit in their house.  Not even in our house.  I'm so glad she didn't give it this weekend.  I wouldn't be able to go -- not with all the little ones.  I'd be afraid to get them sick.  I stayed away from Eric for two days hoping he wouldn't get sick, but I sacrificed that for nothing as he is anyway.

Well - I'm hoping you all have a great weekend.  I don't think mine will be as bad as I made it out to be.  After all, it is a weekend, no work and all.  I'm thinking seriously of making hubby and I a hot toddy this evening and curl up in the living room with a good movie.  I googled how to make one, and damn if there aren't tons of receipes for them.  Me, I'm just looking for a buttered rum one, or two, or three.  LOL! Right now I'm headed to the shower (they always make me feel a little more alive) and my good old sweats.  I might even comb my hair!  Eric will be up soon and Nic's appointment is at 8:30.  I want to be ready to care for my little guy.  Take care everyone!

P.S. With the receipe below -- I'd just slosh the rum in.  One tablespoon indeed!

    Cold!

See that little weather thingie on the right?  See where it says 3 degrees?  Well they lied.  It is 1 degree as I type this.  Not much new except for the cold.  Yes, it is supposed to warm up to the 40's for the weekend.  I don't even want to open my heat bill when it arrives.

Not much new here.  It's the usual lull after the holidays.  Everyone is back to their routine.  Work is busy because of the days we had off.  Eric is back at school - Nik says he ran so fast from the car to the school she could hardly keep up with him.  I'm battling a cold coming on - sinus stuff.  I think maybe I will look into buying stock in the Kleenex industry as we go through so many of them.

Anyway - usually I can get a decent blog out of just typing away, but today it looks like I don't have much.  January is a dull month for me -- I wonder if it was purposely made taht way after all the hoopla of the holidays.  So I'll say so long for now and take care.  Maybe the weekend will bring a little bit of something to say.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

No place I'd rather be at 5:00 a.m. on the first day of a brand new year, than here having coffee with my friends. Nope, I wasn't asleep at midnight.  My darling children made sure of that.  They called to say Happy New Year.   I have Santana's song "Smooth" as my ringtone on my cellphone.  Promptly at midnight Santana started singing and scared the hell right out of me.  By the sounds in the background, I'd say the kids were having a pretty good time.  They were home at 12:30 though and I was able to settle back into a restful sleep for awhile.

We never did use our Chili's certificate yesterday, so we called and they are open today, so we will head out for there and an early lunch.  We spent the day "de-Christmas-sizing" as my husband put it.  Everything looks so naked now.

Well - the snow is back in full force and of course I had to be right in the middle of it.  Snow lover that I am.  I woke at 5:30 yesterday and was so delighted that I didn't have to work, so I didn't have to hurry to clean off the car and all the other things involved with digging us out to head for work.  Charlie had stayed at his friend Chris's the night before.  So there I was, all peaceful and content 6:00 when the phone rang.  It was Charlie asking if I could go to pick him up.  He must have gotten a stomach flu, or ate something his stomach didn't agree with, and had spent his time from 4:00 a.m. getting sick.  So yesterday morning found me knee deep (nope not exagerating) in the fluffy white stuff, cleaning off my car and praying the roads were clear.  We had gotten 11 inches overnight.  And luck was with me as the roads weren't that bad, the plows were out and about.  It was still dark out though and I hate driving in the dark.  My eyes don't adjust well in the dark and the headlights from other cars don't agree also.

Daniel had been out plowing since about 11:00 p.m. and just when we got home, Charlie's friend Dougie called -- time to go to work.  So Charlie stocked up on water, took some Advil and headed out. He really didn't want to, but the pay is good and he needs the money. He is doing fine though -- the virus seems to have passed.  He was one of he ones yelling "Happy New Year" in the background on the phone last night, along with Kevin and Nikki and Daniel and assorted friends.

And I did end up getting stuck once yesterday.  When the plows do the streets, they don't get our little side street and at each corner is a mountain of snow (kinda like when they plow after you just shoveled your driveway and there is a pile at the end you have to do all over again).  And to top it off, some genius put a stop sign at each corner.  So if you stop, the chances of you geting stuck going over the pile are high against you, unless of course you have one of those huge 4 wheel trucks.  Me, I have a little Elantra.  I had to go to the store which is about 5 blocks down that little street.  I did very well until the last one.  I stopped to wave at my nephew who was snowblowing and proceeded to get stuck.  Yep, he had to push me out.

We are expected to get more snow throughout today and I plan to stay OUT OF IT.  I just hope it holds off long enough for us to get to Chili's for lunch.  I'll let ya know.

Meantime, I guess I'll read the skinny little thing that passes for a daily newspaper around here and try to come up with some idea's to remedy the naked house look.   And just so I can be in with the rest of the crowd, I'm bringing the exercise bike up from the basement today.  Let's tackle these flabby thighs Deb.........

    Take care!
