31 oktober HAPPY HALLOWEEN MY FRIENDS!Yes, it's been forcasted to be a beautiful day here in Upstate New York, and while it is still cool out right now, it's still early and the sun is shining. Makes it an afternoon to look forward to. I can hardly wait until I get home from work and see my little bumble bee -- and later my little lion. I had to hide the candy safely away so my "children" wouldn't eat it before all the trick or treaters come.
Well - I'm down to single digets folks! 9 more days. Actually 8 - because on the 8th I am heading to Jersey to catch the plane at 6:00 a.m. on the 9th. We are staying at a hotel next to the airport so we can get there quickly. Although if you look on my space for the weather in Cancun, it's not looking promising. Soooo - let's hope it clears up quickly. What good is warm weather if it's raining?? I need the sunshine!!
Other than that, not much is new. We did get some of the windstorms where I am, but in our neighborhood the power only went out for about 45 minutes. Husband was happy because it came back on right before fooball started. CHARGERS WON! WHOOO HOOO!
My morning coffee break is over and I must get to work. Be sure to look for some pictures of my bumblebee and my lion. And all of you have a fantastic day! 28 oktober Another Quiet MorningWell - This part of Upstate New York is settled in for a full weekend of rain and wind. I've already done 3 loads of laundry. (It's the only chore I really can do without waking up the whole house. I'm not excited about having to go out in the cold and rain, but there is a craft fair at a nearby church I'd like to check out. A year or two ago I saw some really neat homeade birdhouses. The kind where they look like a building. A log cabin, firehouse, coffee shop, etc. I'd like to get two of them as Christmas gifts. One for my dad and one for my sister Vicc and brother-in-law Joe. All three are very big on nature and such. They would love them. Hopefully they will have them at this craft fair. If not, I'll keep searching.
Speaking of my sister, she called and it seems Joe's cancer has not spread. Therefore they are scheduling him for surgery, hoping to get it all. I was so relieved and I could tell my sister was also. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. It means alot.
Halloween is on the horizen -- and the weather says it's looking nice. In the low 60's with sunshine. I had better buy a few more bags of candy, because when the weather is nice, we seem to get more trick or treaters. Kevin Jr. is bring little Kaelynn by. She will be dressed as a lion and we have Eric dressing as a bumble bee. Look for some pictures of the little cuties next week.
Other than that, not much else is going on. I've spent alot of time daydreaming about Cancun and planning what to bring. We have decided that when Kevin picks me up in New Jersey we are going to head to Manhatten to have lunch at the restaurant Jaime works at so we can see him. I can't pass up an opportunity to see him when I am practically on his doorstep. I miss him alot. For the first time, he won't be home for Thanksgiving. It's a big day at the restaurant. He didn't start this job till the day after Christmas last year, so he was hom for both holidays. I'm wishing for him to at least be home for Christmas.
Well my friends - I think I can probably start a few more of my chores. I hear stirrings and I have to wake Charlie for bowling soon. I hope you all have a nice weekend and better weather than we are getting. Take care!
26 oktober Good Feelings and FriendsAnother cold day in Upstate New York - ah, but no snow yet. It's supposed to rain all weekend. I sure hope it doesn't get cold enough to turn that rain into snow. I'm just not ready for that. I'm still waiting for all the leaves to fall off the trees around the house so we can do our yard clean-up. I refuse to rake only to stand and watch more leaves fall before I'm even finished.
I want to share with you all what a nice morning I had. Once arriving to work, I usually get my coffee or V-8 juice and my hard roll. Log in to Spaces and read my comments and check my email. I always get such a good feeling when I have comments from you all. Some are funny, some are friendly, some are chatting and some comment on one thing or another I've said, or share something similar. Whatever the case may be, I want you all to know that you make my mornings at work, start out on the right foot. No matter what kind of day I am having, you all can bring a smile to my face, make me feel special or even sometimes make me laugh out loud. (HUSTLER?? SKIP?) Thanks a bunch for that.
Also when I am working along, or doing whatever it is to occupy my time here and earn my paycheck, it's always fun when someone pops in on the IM - whether it be my sister or one of you. Never feel you are interrupting - if I'm busy I'll let you know that I'll get back to you. Most times I have time for a quick hello. Now if Peachtree (our accounting program) is down again (as it was yesterday) I'll have plenty of time to chat.
Well I've managed to find 4 people who want magazines and I'm so glad. I would hate so much for them to go to waste. I subscribe to quite a few magazines so if I get anymore offers like that I'll let you know. It usually does happen around Christmas so there may be more.
I think I'm rambling because I am nervous. My sister, at the present, time is in Albany getting Joe's test results on his cancer. My sister is holding up very well on the outside. She can contain things while she is strong for others -- but needs an outlet occasionlly. She knows where to find it. Thank you everyone for your prayers. I'm not just saying it when I tell you that they help.
Nikki and I are going to the mall to pick up the pictures they had taken the day Eric had his year old shots taken. (he had 4 shots). I'm anxious to see how crabby he looked. LOL! Other than that, it cuddling up in my sweats with a good book. It's my "manless" night (as I call it). Kevin bowls on Thursday nights and doesn't get home till after 10:00.
Well guess I'll go and visit for awhile, in between catching up on my work from yesterday. Take care! 24 oktober Windy TuesdayI'm just finishing off my lunch. Today is going by very quickly. It's windy and cold - although the sun comes out occasionally.
I spent the morning IMing back and forth with my sister, who is back from a few days in New Hampshire. I really miss seeing her since she moved to Newcomb (which is about 2 hours or up the Northway). She is a lady of leisure for now while she is waiting for a job to come through for her - and I do believe she is enjoying it immensely. I haven't mentioned it here - guess I must feel if I don't talk about it, I don't have to think about it - but my brother-in-law Joe was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer last week. They say it is in the agressive stages and we are waiting for all the tests to come back to see if it has spread. They will know everything on Thursday. I can't seem to get it off my mind.
Things are moving along as usual. I'm making my list of things to take to Cancun (I can hardly believe it is almost time). Need to get a haircut, make sure there are meals for the family (how will they survive without me???)
I received an invitation in the mail yesterday that if I renewed my subscribtion to Cottage Living I could get 2 free subscriptions for friends. They also are doing it with my Coastal Living magazine. I always renew my subscriptions to both magazines -- unfortunately I don't know of anyone who reads magazines or even enjoys getting ideas from them or receipes, etc. Actually I don't know of anyone who reads anything as much as I. My sister can't sit still long enough to look at a magazine. I know some of you, my spacer buddies might like a subscription, but I don't know any addresses. I'm understanding of people wanting to keep private. But if anyone is interested let me know. The websites are here on my blog. I'm not a weirdo looking for addresses to stalk people. Honest.
![]() Anyway - there really isn't much more to ramble about. I have to work on my Accounts Payable things so I'll say bye for now. Till later! 23 oktober My weekend and a lovely story for you all....Mine was a quiet weekend. Of course, Cindi will tell you that her Chiefs won. Whaaaaaaa! My friend Lottie Mae is back online and when I went to welcome her back, she had a lovely story that I'ld like to share. Enjoy and I'll be back tomorrow. Today is Monday and it's always busy on a Monday - even with the boss away. He's due back Wednesday. The Lord looks at the heart. Author Unknown Our house was directly across the street from the clinic entrance of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore . We lived downstairs and rented the upstairs rooms to outpatients at the clinic. One summer evening as I was fixing supper, there was a knock at the door I opened it to see a truly awful looking man. "Why, he's hardly taller than my eight-year-old," I thought as I stared at the stooped, shriveled body. But the appalling thing was his face, lopsided from swelling, red and raw. Yet his voice was pleasant as he said, "Good evening. I've come to see if you've a room for just one night. I came for a treatment this morning from the eastern shore, and there's no bus 'till morning." He told me he'd been hunting for a room since noon but with no success; no one seemed to have a room. "I guess it's my face. I know it looks terrible, but my doctor says with a few more treatments..." For a moment I hesitated, but his next words convinced me: "I could sleep in this rocking chair on the porch. My bus leaves early in the morning." I told him we would find him a bed, but to rest on the porch. I went inside and finished getting supper. When we were ready, I asked the old man if he would join us. "No thank you. I have plenty?" And he held up a brown paper bag. When I had finished the dishes, I went out on the porch to talk with him a few minutes. It didn't take a long time to see that this old man had an oversized heart crowded into that tiny body. He told me he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children and her husband, who was hopelessly crippled from a back injury. He didn't tell it by way of complaint; in fact, every other sentence was prefaced with thanks to God for a blessing. He was grateful that no pain accompanied his disease, which was apparently a form of skin cancer. He thanked God for giving him the strength to keep going. At bedtime, we put a camp cot in the children's room for him. When I got up in the morning, the bed linens were neatly folded, and the little man was out on the porch. He refused breakfast, but just before he left for his bus, haltingly, as if asking a great favor, he said, Could I please come back and stay the next time I have a treatment? I won't put you out a bit. I can sleep fine in a chair." He paused a moment and then added, "Your children made me feel at home. Grownups are bothered by my face, but children don't seem to mind." I told him he was welcome to come again. And on his next trip he arrived a little after seven in the morning. As a gift, he brought a big fish and a quart of the largest oysters I had ever seen. He said he had shucked them that morning before he left so that they'd be nice and fresh. I knew his bus left at 4 a.m., and I wondered what time he had to get up in order to do this for us. In the years he came to stay overnight with us there was never a time that he did not bring us fish or oysters or vegetables from his garden. Other times we received packages in the mail, always by special delivery; fish and oysters packed in a box of fresh young spinach or kale, every leaf carefully washed. Knowing that he must walk three miles to mail these and knowing how little money he had made the gifts doubly precious. When I received these little remembrances, I often thought of a comment our next-door neighbor made after he left that first morning. "Did you keep that awful looking man last night? I turned him away! You can lose roomers by putting up such people!" Maybe we did lose roomers once or twice? But, oh! If only they could have known him, perhaps their illness' would have been easier to bear. I know our family always will be grateful to have known him; from him we learned what it was to accept the bad without complaint and the good with gratitude to God. Recently I was visiting a friend who has a greenhouse. As she showed me her flowers, we came to the most beautiful one of all, a golden chrysanthemum, bursting with blooms. But to my great surprise, it was growing in an old dented, rusty bucket. I thought to myself, "If this were my plant, I'd put it in the loveliest container I had!" My friend changed my mind. "I ran short of pots," she explained, "and knowing how beautiful this one would be, I thought it wouldn't mind starting out in this old pail. It's just for a little while, till I can put it out in the garden." She must have wondered why I laughed so delightedly, but I was imagining just such a scene in heaven. Here's an especially beautiful one," God might have said when he came to the soul of the sweet old fisherman. "He won't mind starting in this small body." All this happened long ago -- and now, in God's garden, how tall this lovely soul must stand. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." " 20 oktober Quick HelloWe are getting a big thunderstorm (love them) and I just wanted to say a quick hello just in case the power goes out and I don't get a chance. I'd love it if the power went out. At least for a little bit anyway.
Our buddy Hearts finally went and made the apple cider donuts I talk so much about. You really must go and read of her donut adventures -- oh and her laundry adventures as well. What a sweetie she is.
And remember to go help JoAnne out with names. Other than that, nothing is new. Not many plans for this weekend, other than watching my San Diego Chargers have at it with the KC Chiefs. You know though, sometimes the weekends with no plans turn into the best weekends ever. Maybe that's the case for me this weekend.
19 oktober Scooby DooHa - Gotcha. There is no particular meaning to that title other than it was what I was thinking about when I was waiting for the page to load. Kevin thought Eric might like watching Scooby Doo -- therefore the song became stuck in my head and remains there until another takes it's place.
I wonder what age people stop getting pimples (or zits as the kids call them). Here I am at 50 and I have one right on the bridge of my nose, right between my eyes. What's up with that? As if 50 year olds didn't have enough to worry about.
Ok - now that all the nonsense above is taken care of....The weather here is nice today. Not as cold as it has been and although there is no sun, it's not raining either. The leaves are in full multi-color, the ones that are left anyway, and it's beautiful. A look at the 7 day forcast however shows some frost coming up. It's inevitable I guess, but I don't have to like it.
I am still surfing around on the computer, investigating places that Kevin and I might want to relocate to. To be honest, I'm looking forward to it more and more. There have been so many changes in our lives in the last few years, and we will be empty nesters shortly. I'm ready for a new phase in my life and a little adventure. And of course it will NOT be cold where I go. Mostly I've been looking at Texas (areas within 30 minutes from the beach). But there are other states along the Gulf Coast that I have yet to dig into. I would love a small town atmosphere. We do not plan to buy a whole house -- thinking maybe condo, or even Mobile Home. HEY! We could buy an RV and become gypsies. Nah -- I'm a homebody so that wouldn't work.
Boss will be back Wednesday. I'm about to get some more work done, then I will do a little office cleaning. It's almost lunchtime anyway. In the meantime, till I return, I leave you with the following thought:"Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing!"
16 oktober Wow - we are halfway through October already? So - How was everyone's weekend. Mine was both constructive and relaxing. And........ My Chargers won again!
Can that man jump or what!
Cindy - this is the big week. Chargers and Kansas City.
I will be online Sunday - so lets see
what happens. Of course you know who I'm picking on my football sheet this week don't ya? Friday was nice. We babysat Eric. He's starting to walk all over now and it's fun to watch his expressions. He makes an expression like a pig snout (scrunches up his nose and sorta snorts). Kevin calls him snout when he does it.
Saturday was cold, but I went shopping and picked up Eric's new car seat, then went home and cleaned like a maniac. I completely redid the bathroom (all but painting it). That will come later. I made a big pot of veggie beef soup Sunday and we watched football. We also went to pick up Eric's Bumble Bee costume. I get the biggest kick out of the antenna's. I bought 4 pair of warm sleeper blanket p.j.'s for him. With the little feet They have rubber on the bottom so he can continue to practice his walking on my hardwood floors without slipping and sliding.
Well - Skip says that I absolutely must get some pictures of me in a Mexican jail. I don't know Skip -- are you gonna bail me out?? Stay by the phone that week will ya! Mexican jail indeed. Silly Skip.
Eric is getting his year old shots today, poor thing. But also Nikki, Daniel have an appointment for a family portrait at 7:45. I hope Eric is not cranky from his shots. That could be some picture.
Well, like Ladybug, even though my boss is away, I must earn my pay. It has been pretty quiet, but Mondays are usually steady work because I have Saturday and Monday mail. I'll be around to do some visiting tomorrow and see what everyone is up to. Till then..........Enjoy your day! 13 oktober Brrrr, Cold out!It was 28 degrees when I left the house this morning. I couldn't find my ice scraper, so I had to use my old Grand Union card to scrape off the frost. I just read they have 2 feet of snow in Buffalo. I do hope this isn't a picture of things to come. Snow before Halloween. The leaves aren't even off the trees yet. What a mess that will make.
Hopefully it will be much warmer this weekend. Meanwhile ----
MySpace Comments Graphics 10 oktober Brief History/Almost time for CancunI'm really getting excited. We are e-mailing back and forth with so many plans and idea's and just plain excitement in general. Not only is the trip to Mexico exciting, but the fact we are spending time together is great as well. It's been awhile.
I met my friend Kathie when we were in 2nd grade in Public School #8 in Jersey City. We met Diane, Jeanne and Anita shortly after. Growing up in Jersey City sure was an adventure. Our parents decided that to keep us out of trouble, they all needed to meet and keep in touch. With 5 of us hanging out together who knew what was going on from one minute to the next. So - we all inda had 5 sets of parents. In 1971 my mom passed away and about 6 months later I was forced to move to Upstate to stay with relatives. It was a hard time not only for me, but for my friends as well. They loved my mom and at age 14 we really had never thought of death - especially the death of someone such a close part of our lives. Everything changed - as life usually does.
Close friends like we were never lose touch. There was a space of time I was away - being in the Navy, traveling and such. Actually - I had a hard time for quite a few years after the death of my mom. My life was in upheaval for awhile. They all remained in Jersey and graduated together. I graduated in Upstate NY and left for the Navy - San Diego. I didn't see them for awhile, but as soon we got back in touch.
We've shared family vacations in Delaware, they've come here to New York, we've been to New Jersey a few times. Funerals, weddings, etc. I figure I was about 7 in the second grade, which makes our friendship approx 43 years. I love each of them with all my heart.
The above is just a brief history of our friendship. There is so much more involved that it would take a long time to tell. These are 3 pics I just happened to have on my computer. They were taken at Anita's Wedding in New Jersey. From the left - Kathie, Myself, Anita, Jeanne and Diane. The second is Diane and I. The last photo I believe we were in our early 20's. Diane is taking the picture. Know which is me?
I have tons more pictures on discs at home, but you'll see us all when I post the Cancun pictures.
09 oktober Waiting for Pictures aren't ya?I know, I know - you were all waiting for pictures. But we were having so much fun, I kept forgetting to take out the camera. Amazingly enough we really didn't buy alot at the mall, but we walked all over the whole mall and went into so many stores. We didn't get to go into Bath and Body Works - Nikki says it makes Eric sneeze. Me, I thought that would be cute to see and I might have gotten pictures of that. Eric sneezing. He laughs at everyone who sneezes, including himself. Ha - Sneeze, laugh, sneeze, laugh. We had lunch at 99 Diner - Eric ate some mashed potatoes and corn and had some of mom's whipped cream. No way for the carrots.
It was a beautiful weekend weatherwise -- in the 70's and sunny. It's the same today. One would almost think it is summer again. Therefore we will get pictures today of the leaves and Eric and such to make up for not getting silly mall pictures. It's quiet today at work. Big Boss is in Europe on vacation and another co-worker took toay off so that leaves three of us here. It will probably be quiet all week.
I can hardly believe that it's only about 4 weeks till my Cancun trip. I plan at least one day on the beach, with a shower and dinner out. (that will probably be the day we arrive) I think another day I would love sightseeing and shopping. I'm getting very excited.
![]() 07 oktober A Rare Saturday BlogGood Morning! It's 6:00 a.m. and all is calm and peaceful. We had a little scare with Nikki yesterday. She had bad heartburn and indegestion and called me at home because she was hurting, dizzy and vomiting. I came home and was worried enough to call 911. She was in alot of chest pain and very clammy as well as being white as a ghost. They advised taking her to the emergency room (she wouldn't go in the ambulance because she is in between insurances at the moment). So at 3:00 they went and sat, and sat, and sat in the emergency room. At 6:00 she asked if she was going to be seen soon. They told her it would be awhile as they were crowded, so because she was feeling better she decided to come home. After water and lots of gingerale she began to look better as well. I offered to watch Eric through the night so she could rest. So after giving him a bottle at 3:30 a.m., he decided he wasn't ready to go back to sleep. So we played and finally he started to doze off. No I can't sleep. There you have it! The story of the Saturday post.
I have decided to have one last cup of coffee, before I shower and start my cleaning. If Nikki is feeling better (and I believe she is) we will go to the mall as planned and have lunch at 99 Diner (our diner). Kevin is going to do the yardwork and I'm hoping he leaves us a pile of leaves so we can let Eric jump in them. I'll add those pictures to the mall ones.
I'm so surprised at how fast time goes. I was looking back at my pictures here on my blog and there is one of little Eric in his first Halloween costume and here it is his second Halloween. He is going to be a bumble bee this year. Nik and I love the antennas. Looking at pictures of him then, and seeing him now is amazing. It saddens me a little to know how quickly he is growing. He is able to stand by himself and turn around in a complete circle. But gets all kinds of wobbly when he takes a few steps, plops down and decides to crawl to where he wants to go. It won't be long now till he gets the wobbly under control and then we are all in for a heck of a time chasing him around.
Yes, they talked me into giving one of those "Come Home" parties. It wasn't that hard because there are a few things I want that I can't really afford, so I can try to earn them free. I was thinking of combining that party (which is December 5) with a cookie exchange or some other type of get together. Anyone have any other ideas? I was also thinking of a gift wrapping party, but I don't think everyone wants to lug their gifts and stuff over. But I have found that more people come to the parties if it has lots of activities. Maybe a craft theme?
Well - I guess I'll get started on my shower and housecleaning. I have plenty to do before the fun begins. I hope you all have as fun a day as I plan to! 06 oktober Once again it's FridayIt's almost lunchtime and I'm sitting here snacking on Pumpkin Bread with cream cheese. Yum, but I'm spoiling my lunch. You know adding cream cheese to pumpkin bread makes it taste like a piece of Pumpkin cheesecake. I'm not sure if I like the taste or not. I have never been partial to cheesecake. When I was a girl I took a piece of pinapple cheesecake and didn't like it. My dad was the "waste not, want not" type and made me eat it. I burped pinapple for a week and haven't had cheesecake since. Nah - telling that story got me going. Forget the pumpkin bread and cream cheese.
This week sure has gone by fast. Besides the "Come Home" party I went to there wasn't much else going on. I spent the evenings resting trying to get rid of this nasty cold.
Nik and I have decided we need another "girls day out". I was reading my friend Ladybug's blog the other day and she had a great time with her daughter and some silly pictures. That's what happens when Nik and I go out together. We have such fun. Thanks Ladybug for putting the idea of a fun day with Nik in my head. I sure can use it.
Well my friends - it's lunchtime so I'm going to eat. I hope you all have an awesome weekend.
04 oktober Warm Day - Usual StuffWow - that last blog was much to long. I had to scroll down forever just to see if I had any comments.
It's almost time to go home so I thought I would say a quick hello to everyone. The "At Home" party last night was fun and I really like their merchandise. I bought 2 things. Check them out here and here. They are beautiful in person as well. It was fun to get out even though my cold has been bothering me once again. We are due to get thunderstorms tonight, it was almost 80 degrees here today. But tomorrow will be back down in the 60's so it's back to fall weather again.
Time to go home now. I hope you all have a wonderful evening. Till tomorrow!
03 oktober Ha - I'm older than dirt...A friend sent me this test and I had fun taking it. Yep - I got 18 out of 20 right. Older than dirt. It's pretty funny the things you remember from way back then. How simple life was. Anyway - if you want take the test and let me know how you did.
Nothing new since yesterday. I made Shepherds Pie last night for dinner. Yum - filling and delicious. Slept like a baby. Tonight I have to go to one of those home parties. It's called At Home America. Anyone heard of it? I need candles - sure wish it was a Partylite Party.
