27 novembre Ahh yes - It's ThanksgivingYes, I know it's been awhile since I've updated. I've been busy of course, like all of us are. But I did want to take time to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. Mine will be a quiet one as it is most years, now that the kids are spread out. But Christmas celebrations more than make up for that, and in truth I enjoy a quiet Thanksgiving.
I'm thankful for many things and during this busy time of year, it's easy to forget to be thankful. In the rush of getting ready for the holidays, I tend to forget just what they are for. My quiet Thanksgiving this year, gives me time to think and to feel grateful for how much I have and for those I love and care about, who return that love and caring. I'm grateful for the roof over my head, lots of food on my table, a secure job and the gift of my friends at Spaces who add so much to my life. I guess what it all comes down to are the simple things that get forgotten in the rush to have more and to make it all perfect. So on this day, I'll enjoy the love and companionship of my family, let the ones that aren't here know I miss them and love them, stuff myself full of turkey and all the trimmings, take my grandbaby for a walk in his wagon and watch my San Diego Chargers play football. Making another Thanksgiving memory for which I'm grateful.
Thank you friends, for adding so much to my life........
19 novembre Time sure does fly byI just read on Caroldee's blog that Christmas is only 38 days away. That sure woke me up. Somehow it seems I have much more time than that to get ready for it. But 38 days sounds so close. OMG - that means me going to California is only 16 days away and Thanksgiving only 7! Time to get off my duff and get ready for these things. Here I am going about my old routine, thinking these things are "coming up" but not realizing just how "coming up" they really are. So much to do. Not so much for Thanksgiving, but California and Christmas. Didn't we just finish celebrating Eric's birthday outside in the sunshine? And wasn't it just practically yesterday that we had fun on Halloween?
I made an appointment for December 2 for Kevin and I to get our pictures done at the studio. I thought it would be fun and there really aren't any of just Kevin and I, since I am usually the one taking all the pictures. Also I am not very photogenic therefore I shy away from the camera most of the time. Maybe my girls can do something about that -- although it will take a miracle. Jamie (girl) and Nikki will both be working that evening and I want the photo to be casual -- jeans and all. Not a posed, stand straight smiling picture. That's just not us. So I'm anxious to see what they will come up with. I really enjoyed the pictures they had done of the four of them for my birthday. Jaime (boy) with his arms crossed, giving Nikki that tolerant look - Nikki, hands on her hips, making her scrunced up face at him, Charlie and Kevin wrestling -- and one nice pose of all them them behaving themselves. It made a wonderful collage. Now after this picture of Kevin and I, all I need is one of my three grandbabies and the wall above my computer will be complete.
Not much else is new here - like I said, the old routine. The Thanksgiving parade is this coming Saturday. Now of course they call it the "Holiday Parade" --
Take care and have a wonderful day!
15 novembre So it's Saturday huh?
It's chilly in here this morning -- but it's early and the heat hasn't kicked on yet. I have one of the programable thermostats, so it won't go on till 5:30. Yes, I can turn it on now, but that's cheating. And considering I yell at anyone else who cheats - I'd probably get an earful. Husband has a cold so he is in a full snoring mode -- No way I can get back to sleep. The funny thing is, whenever I say "shhhhh" -- he stops. Only to start again 3 or 4 minutes later (yes I timed him -- lol). That will just go to show you how awake I was at 3:30 a.m. But I fell asleep pretty early last night so I will be fine. Besides, it's supposed to be like yesterday - raining and cloudy -- a good nap day if I get the chance. So what is on the agenda for everyone's Thanksgiving? It will be a small one here with hubby and I, Nikki, Daniel, Eric and Charlie. I'll do the cooking with Nik and have fun setting up the table and taking pictures to share with Jaime and all -- calling family to say hello and of course keeping track of the football games. If it's nice enough - we will take Eric for a wagon ride to get some fresh air. Oh and dessert -- can't forget dessert, and turkey sandwiches later. Anyone heading out to the stores for Black Friday? I haven't decided if I will do it this year, although Nik and I had a great time last year. We will be meeting Melody for lunch though, so while we are at the mall, we might as well shop a bit. Just not so darn early. And I don't particularly want to stand in the huge lines. Last year Nik stood in line while I shopped and I returned the favor while she grabbed what she needed, so it went ok. We had a plan and a strategy. At least Nik didn't have to drag me away from clobbering some nasty rude shopper. She has before. I have no patience with rude, nasty people. And I have no problem telling them to chill out or to watch who they are pushing. I guess to go out on days like that you need a sense of humor and a happy attitude. Otherwise - stay home I say.......It's more fun when everone is on the same wave length. I like chatting with people in line and hearing someone looking for something that I'm standing in front of...the yelling back and forth "it's over here." The crowds aren't so bad when everyone is in good humor. I mean really - what do people expect to find when they decide to brave the crowds? That the sea of people will just part for them -- that the store should cater to them and them only? Go with the flow I say.......and have fun. Ok, rant over... Have a nice weekend everyone! Paper is here and I actually hear my little man stirring upstairs. Won't be long now till I'm not the only one awake.
13 novembre Hey everone! Not much is new since the last post. Winter has definately arrived - I can tell because there are more loads of laundry than usual -- lots of sweatshirts and pants, vs shorts and t-shirts which takes up less room. One other thing I can complain about winter for. Bigger laundry. LOL!
My day off was very nice. Even though Melody was unable to make our shopping/lunch date, we did get to talk on the phone. Probably could have talked longer but I was in Wal*art and had my hands full of a vaporizer/humidifier I was getting for Eric for his cold. We made plans for the Friday after Thanksgiving for lunch at The Cheesecake Factory." Barring the weather of course, where in case of nasty roads we will stick to 99 Diner which is closer.
It was nice walking around the mall on my own - actually going into the bookstore, rather than just looking at it longingly. Nik hates when I go in there as I can browse for hours if I had time. So of course, you know where I spent a good chunk of my morning. Got some items for my Christmas list. I also got all my grandbabies shopping done and on layaway. They will only hold it till Dec 5th though, so I need to find a hiding place sooner than expected. Now I don't have to worry about what I want to get them being sold out and having to settle for something I'm not sure they will care about.
As expected there was no work piled up for me, so it was a pretty steady day yesterday at work. I have to get Nik to come in for the filing for the previous accounting year -- I cringe whenever I think of it. Besides -- she is good company, me being the only female there usually.
I took time and got my haircut last night -- tonight is my date with Miss Clariol, so I will shed a year or two....this gray does nothing for me. So everyone have a nice day and an extra relaxing evening (I will as it's Kev's bowling night). I'm headed to start my day!
11 novembre Veteran's Day among other things.......I invite everyone to join me in taking a minute to thank our Veterans for their sacrifices for our Freedom and Country, and send prayers and blessing to the soldiers who continue to do the same. You have my undying graditude and respect, especially on (but not litmited to) this special day appointed to recognize you all. It's been a busy time, and I haven't spent much time on the computer, or rather here on MSN. Eric still isn't feeling well, although he is better, with no fever, he is still listless and not sleeping or eating well. Nik took him back to the Doctor yesterday, just to be sure it really is a virus. He doesn't have strep, or an ear infection or such. I'm noticing he is developing a cough and stuffy nose, so I suspect he is getting a bad cold. Poor little guy is probably wondering what the heck is going on. He seems content to be cuddled and while I am enjoying the cuddling part, I miss his active, smiling little self who won't sit still for a minute.
Nikki's friend Teresa asked me to design some invitations to a Christmas Party she wants to give, as well as some birthday/Thanksgiving Feast a friend of her's is planning, so I've been doing that on off times at work. Then there is the fact that this computer freezes right up when I use it for more than 20 minutes. Although it does last longer in the morning, it is too frustrating to try to use any other time.
Well Cindi - it was close. K.C. almost did it -- beat my Chargers. But alas -- we managed one more win. What's up with that? The Chargers were so great last year. Whatever it is they changed, well they'd better start changing it right back. (Great, who on earth says "alas" anymore???
I took today off as it is one of the slowest days of my work week, and today will be even slower as no banks are open and no mail. I was due to meet Melody for some shopping and lunch, but she has an unexpected appointment. Athough I am still hoping she will be able to at least make the lunch part. We'll see. Melody and I used to ride the school bus together and lived "up the road" from each other. Although we "found" each other again online, we still havn't had the opportunity to get together. Click here to go say hello if you want.
Either way, it's still a great opportunity to get my layaway put on for the kids toys. I've put it off too long as it is. I've put the kabash on buying anything for myself till after Christmas - or till I'm done buying for Christmas, whichever comes first. (Good grief, now I'm saying kabash -- what's happening to me?)
Thanksgiving is coming up fast, and so is our trip to California. I'd better get moving on planning both those events as well. Oh how I wish I were more organized.
Well since it's still early, lets see if I can get some visiting done. I've had plenty of visitors and want to go say hello back. If you don't see me today, remember this computer from hell and know I'll get to you tomorrow at work.
Meanwhile - have a great Veteran's Day!
8 novembre Yea for Saturday Mornings....Yes, I really do enjoy my Saturday mornings. No time limit when I have to stop what I'm doing and head for the shower and work. Sunday's are a bit different - as I have to do my grocery list with the sale flyers, and coupons and head out for shopping before the crowds hit. That's good though, as I'm back early and can enjoy the rest of my Sunday. Football Season you know. Easy dinners, a Bud Light or two (or three...lol), playtime with Eric and generally doing only what I feel like doing. Sometimes I even doze off to take a nap. Ahhhh - nothing like a Sunday nap.
I spent alot of this week on the computer at work, playing with pictures and trying to decide which I want to enlarge for the kids playroom. It's a bigger job than I thought it would be. Some pictures were taken with the wrong resolution and cannot be enlarged that big. I just may have to take ore pictures, now that I am aware of that. I still haven't found another photograpy class, so I am resigned to having to take one online. It will have to wait though till after Christmas and me affording a new laptop. As everyone knows by now, this old computer just won't do the job.
The nurse sent Eric home sick from school yesterday. He was running a fever and throwing up. Nik took him to the Dr yesterday afternoon, and she belives he has a virus that's going around. Poor little guy. So not himself. Nik doesn't like to be away from him when he's sick, so she took yesterday off and will take half of today, if he is not any better.
Other than that, not much is happening here. It's been a pretty warm week for the most part - although little sun and some rain the other day. Funny how people's moods change with the weather. I alternate from peppy and feeling good, to moody and non motivated. It doesn't help that it's the ugliest part of the seaon. Fall is so beautiful in the beginning (to me at least), but after the leaves are off the trees and the weather is gray and grass brown (most people's grass anyway)...it really doesn't make my neighborhood very attractive. A few people commented in my last blog about one of my neighbors grass being so green while all the rest are brown. No clue -- it's that way every year - along with the people kitty corner from my house. Theirs also is still lush and green. I think it has somethig to do with the kind of grass they have.
Anyway -- I'm going to read the paper and putter around here for a bit. It's still quiet at 7:30 although I can hear Nik getting ready for work. Take care everyone and enjoy the weekend. Maybe I'll actually see my Chargers win this weekend for a change. They play Kansas City - Cindi's team.
4 novembre Yep, It's November all right....Wow is it ever foggy out today. It's supposed to be in the low 60's with no sun - and that's what it looks like it will be. Weatherman said no rain till Friday, so we didn't put the full leaf bags in the garage. I think he lied, as the ground is wet. I have decided I am not going to look at the leaf bags. I will avert my eyes and let Kevin deal with them if they are wet. I just don't want to know.
So did everyone have fun on Halloween? We took Eric around the neighborhood like last year and then he went to trick or treat with his cousins Kaelynn and Baby Kevin. He has lots of candy for his mom and dad, but he will keep the Kit Kats and 3 muskateers for himself as they are his favorites. Nikki took his costime off and put his pj's on and pointed him towards The bed. He was so tired, he didn't make it. Nik came back from putting away his costume and he was asleep right on the floor where she left him. LOL!
Not much is new. We are still raking leaves -- I think we have one more raking day in us and we can quit. I'm not too fond of this time of year when all the pretty leaves are gone, brown and wrinkled on the ground, the trees look like sticks and the lawns are all brown and everything just looks grubby. The local news stations are just full of the election today. So much so, that I don't think any other news is happening. If it is, they are not reporting it. I for one will be glad when it's done. It seems to go on forever and it started extra early this year.
Eric's evalutaion went well. He still has his Autism Diagnosis, but the doctor says his development is normal and puts him at the 36 month level (considering that's his real age - it's great!). He is confident that Eric will progress wonderfully and meet the many goals that we and the school have worked on. He was impressed at what a change in Eric from the last Evaluation, last year. Last year, he would not go near the doctor and cried and cried -- would not cooperate at all. This year he did everything asked of him.
Well - gotta get back o work, but I'll leave you with this little joke my father in law emailed me. Gave me a little chuckle -- take care!
Liver and Cheese Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle. The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time. The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return. Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, 'The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me.' The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, 'I love liver and cheese.' 'Oh, how childish,' said the Poodle. 'That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever.' She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says 'How well can you do?' 'Um. I HATE liver and cheese,' blurts the Golden Retriever. 'My, my,' said the Poodle. 'I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence.' She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, 'How about you, little guy?' The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua. He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says.... Liver alone. Cheese mine.
