Not Much Warmer Today

Temperatures have droped to 0 degrees, -15 with the wind chill factor and I freeze just walking from my door to my car.  Payback for the mild winter I guess.  Because I am in the front office by the door, my feet are freezing, as I get the blasts of cold air from people coming in and out.

Nothing much is new at the moment.  It is busy right now - especially with the guys in Las Vegas attending their training -   ahem...must be studying hard at the slot machines.  Jealous?? Of course I'm not jealous!  Humph.

I had Quizno's for lunch today, thier new Prime Rib sub - and it nearly burned my mouth off.  It has a peppercorn sause on it.  I'm still breathing fire!    Just call me Dragon Lady!  On that note, I'm off to visit.  Can't wait to get home and get warm and cozy.

No Shoveling for me!

It's Sunday a.m. and I nearly froze just getting the paper off the front porch.

Not much planned for today other than grocery shopping and I'm watching Eric while Nikki and Daniel go to take another look at their apartment.  He is in his walker holloring and throwing out all his toys while we wait for Sponge Bob to come on.  He's so cute.  (there will be slight pauses in my bloging as I pick toys up for him).  I had forgotten all about those baby games.

Nikki and Daniel move into their new apartment on Wednesday.  Yep, the house will be pretty quiet without them here.  But I am excited for Nikki going out on her own and setting up her own home for her family.  Her biggest fear is cooking...no more "what's for dinner mom"?  Now it's "what should I make for dinner?"  At least they will be close by (about 25 minutes away) instead of all the way in Florida.

I got my new Country Living magazine in the mail yesterday and that, along with my new book will keep me occupied this afternoon after grocery shopping.  A pot roast in the crock pot, will feed us later. Since I have to do the shopping, I'm leaving the shoveling up to the men.  Gives them something to do.

Charlie slept at his brother Kevin's last night - actually shoveling is his chore among others for his weekly allowance, so I'm sure he's not excited about all this snow.  I remember when they were all kids they used to love it.  I'll tell you though I don't miss the piles and piles of wet clothes.  What I do miss is watching the fun they had.  I can't wait to teach Eric how to make a snowball.  Grandpa can't wait to sit Eric in his big work truck while he plows the driveway.

So all -- that's the story of my exciting weekend.  It's ok though - spring will be here soon and give me plenty to do, so I'll just enjoy this quiet lazy snowfilled day. So till tomorrow - Take care!

Ok, Ok, - I'll get rid of the Mole Joke.

It's Saturday night and I don't have a date.

We went to Scarborough's for lunch and hung around home because it is snowing and cold.  Yes Skip I said snowing.

Other than that - there is not much going on.  Boring!

I hope all of your weekend is bette than mine.

Couldn't Resist...

The Mole Family
-- A mama mole, a papa mole, and a baby mole all live in a little mole hole.

One day the papa mole sticks his head out of the hole, sniffs the air and says," Yum! I smell maple syrup!"

The mama mole sticks her head out of the hole, sniffs the air and says "Yum! I smell honey!"

The baby mole tries to stick his head out of the hole to sniff the air, but can't because the bigger moles are in the way so he says, "Geez, all I can smell is....

Are you ready for this?

Are you sure you're ready?
You may never forgive me for this one...

MOLASSES!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Business Trips, Spoiled Brat Babies and Cheeze Whiz

All is quiet at Spaces today I see.  I did go around to visit and even my buddy Skip hasn't shown up today.  Now that is unusual as he sometimes blogs three or four times a day.

It's a gloomy rainy day in Upsate NY today. The weather guy said today was going to be the best day of the week.  Well, the weather guy lied.  If that's the case we are in for some really lousy weather the rest of the week, which I guess is tomorrow.  Well, it could be worse I guess...It could be:

It's also quiet here at work.  The three sales guys I work with are busy getting ready for their trip to Vegas.  Yep, a business trip to Vegas, all expenses paid.  Big Boss, myself and our part time driver will be running the show here in New York wihile they are hitting the slot machines.  Spoiled Brat Babies.....  Oh well, I actually got to go to Albany once for the Notary Seminar....yipeee!  Spoiled Brat Babies.

Tomorrow is Scot's birthday, so we get to order lunch out.  He picked Ruby Tuesdays and they have a Curbside To Go Menu.  Top Sirloin is lookin good to me right now...it's not Vegas, but whatever.  I'll be the Spoiled Brat baby tomorrow.  If only Red Lobster were closer to us.

Well everyone - I have some Cheeze Whiz and crackers and I'm going to settle in with that snack while I finish up some work.  I hope everyone is enjoying their day today.  Till later!

Memories

Today, 35  years ago (1971) my mom passed away.  I was 14, soon to be 15.   I wanted to take today and just remember her and to tell her (if she is listening) how much I still miss her.

Although it's been so many years since she passed away, the many memories we made stay strong within me, and I am told that each time I look in a mirror, I will see her face, as I look so much like her.

I remember the time my mom came home with a new haircut.  Anyone remember the "Spock" haircut? (Yes, the Spock from Star Trek).  I remember the short little pointed sideburns and bangs and how she kept asking me "do they look ok?"  And how she took my word above anyone elses that "yes mom, they look neat" and kept the style rather than changing.  Seems like a funny thing to remember, but I guess the point was that although I was just a kid, she made it a point to let me know she valued my opinion on things.   She gave me my love of reading.  We had a sectional couch and I remember we each sat on one end in the evenings and read our books.  I read Nancy Drew and I remember she at one point was reading a Harold Robbins book - Oh, and "Valley Of The Dolls" was another.  I owed her thousands of dollars from playing Yatzee - we both loved that game.  And if she didn't get home in time to watch "Dark Shadows" I had to tell her all about it.  It was our favorite show.  She loved Elvis Presley and she loved to dance.  My friends and I would dance in our living room all the time.  She was a "cool mom".

We owned a summer home at Toms River (we lived in Jersey City at the time) and every Friday in the summer we would head to the Jersey Shore, stopping at Carvel for ice cream on the way.  And boy was she ever lucky at Seaside Heights on the boardwalk.  I'm surprised they didn't close down when they saw her coming, as she won tons of goodies each time we went.  She also shared her love of Bingo with me, letting me play a card and keep the money if it won, when I went with her to early evening games (no late ones cause of school).   Yes, I still love to go to Bingo although they closed down the place I used to go.

She loved to dress my sister and I up at Easter.  New dresses, socks, patent leather shoes, hats, spring coats and even new little purses for us.  And the Easter Baskets .... she had more fun putting them together than we did eating them....ummmm yep, she helped eat them too.  I still have the pictures (black and white) of our Easter Sunday's.  There are so many more memories they have and still are popping up at all times in my life.  I guess that's why maybe there are times when she never really seems far away.  She's still with me in my heart.

I wish she had lived to see my sister and I grow up, and to see her grandchildren - how proud she would be.  And how spoiled they would be ...LOL!  Yep, I sure do miss her.

Thanks for letting me share...I'll finish visiting and will be back tomorrow.

Tuesday

Sorry not to be around for a little.  I did manage to make it to work today, but still not feeling well.

I have managed to put on a few pictures of Eric in his new walker and having fruit with his cereal for the first time.  He had such a ball this weekend and so did we.

Take care ya'll -- I'll be back to normal soon, I hope.

Sunday

It is sooo cold out.  Wouldn't you know it that Kevin has to change my rotor and brake pads this weekend.  Poor guy...he's a trooper.

Yes, I definately belong somewhere warm.  Just the though of going out into the cold makes me depressed.

That's it - Just wanted to say hello!

Good Morning - Happy Friday!

Isn't Eric the sweetest thing in his snowsuit?  Waiting patiently while his daddy snaps him in.  It hardly seems possible he is almost 5 months.

I went outside this morning to start my car and I was amazed at how warm it was.  The birds were singing and although the sun wasn't out, it felt like a spring morning.  It hit 60 yesterday and broke a record in the Albany area and they are expecting it to do the same today.  They did predict 70 mph winds though.    There is a high wind warning in effect till noon.  So far it's barely blowing.  Then Saturday and Sunday it will be in the 20's.    Weird huh?  Anyway, right now there are storm clouds are on the horizon -- looking kinda spooky actually.

I went over to Kimbers site and read about the boy who sent a rose to the girls in his H.S. graduating class.  500 roses.  What a sweetie.  I love reading things like that instead of the "crap" lately that passes for news.  I don't even know why I read the paper in the morning anymore because it aggravates me so much.

Our driver here at work is on a delivery in Vermont.  We just talked to him and he is stopping to buy 6 Powerball tickets (one for each of us) for the huge Powerball drawing on Sataurday.  Wouldn't it be nice??

Well the mailman just came and I need to get our deposit to the bank before the storm clouds break.  It's moving this way pretty fast.  Besides, my luck I will lose power and lose this whole post.

Take care till later!

Record-Breaking Power Ball

Just Saying Hello!

Hello Everyone.  I'm sorry for not being around Spaces much yesterday.  Nothing is going on, just a usual day at work.  I did pull a muscle in my shoulder blade while taking a shower yesterday. OUCH - that hurt! - so I was a little whiny.  I went home from work and made dinner, played with Eric and then just laid with my heating pad till Kevin told me to go to bed.  So exciting.

Today is supposed to be in the 50's once again, tomorrow also, and then we will get temps in the teens for the weekend.  Crazy, crazy winter here in Upstate NY.

Anyway, nothing much is going on today either so I'm going to leave you with a George Carlin piece -- Theresa emailed it to me and I was saving it for a day such as today.  Do any of you do that?  Save things for your blog, just in case you have nothing to blog about?

Till later ---

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21.
Even the words sound like a ceremony...YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out.  There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa!  Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60. You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN
4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!" May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Happy Valentines Day My Friends!

Ahhhh - the day of love.  So does anyone have special plans?

I found a cute game while surfing around yesterday.  Go here if you want to give it a try.  It told me my best dating time would be in the 1890's.  LOL!  Guess I'm just not a modern day girl.

Mondays Just Last So Long Don't They?

It feels like I've been at work a full day already and it's only a bit after 10 a.m.  I'm really looking forward to getting home tonight.

Dinner went well last night, we had an enjoyable evening. I really liked that Lemon, Garlic Butter Chicken and will have to make it more often.

We didn't get much snow, actually I don't know if it was even an inch, although NY City was 24 inches.  I'd really like to send some out Skip's way, as he needs a little shaking up.  This oughta do it.

 Skip: "Stupid Snow"

We have to go to an Elk's dinner on Wednesday night for my husbands entry into membership.  It's a dress up thing.  I told him I refuse to wear antlers.  I will laugh if they put some on him.  I do wish it wasn't in the middle of the week though.

Well, It's 1:20 pm and snowing starting to go from flurries to real snow here.  The sky is all dark.  I wonder if it's our turn now seeing as we escaped yesterdays storm.  Kids called to say our electric went out at home for a few minutes.  Oh well about another 2 hours and I can head out.

Now I'm off for some visiting and to work.  Take care everyone!

Havin Coffee with Ya All

Good Morning!

I'm up early once again.  Coffee is hot, paper is boring so I decided to come here, drink my coffee and chat with you all.  That's perfect because I value my alone time in the morning.  If anyone else gets up early and tries to talk to me or invade my space, I get a little crabby. This way, no one can talk to me, yet I can let my thoughts wander as I usually do when waking up.  The only bad part is that I have to move my fingers.  Oh well, I'll call it my morning exercise.

Sorry I didn't get around yesterday or update my space.   Our network and internet went down at work so I had to actually clean my office for something to do.  Oh well, at least my files got cleaned out.  Couldn't do any of the other work because our accounting program is on the network and was down also.  I never realized I have hardly any games on the computer without going to the internet.  I was stuck playing Minesweeper for an hour.

There really isn't much planned for this weekend.  A haircut is in order this morning though as Nikki took a few pictures of Eric and I (no way am I posting them) and I saw what my hair really looks like. Why do mirrors lie so much? I usually wear my hair very, very short. I decided to grow it and see how it looks because I got this great shampoo and thought it would help my coarse curly hair. I had visions of smooth straight hair at least to my shoulders.    Humph! The heck with that after seeing those pictures.  It looks like a short haystack, where some of the hay is turning grey.  I guess the shampoo doesn't cover the grey.  What was I thinking?

Sunday is a family dinner with my nephew Kurt and his family and my son Kevin and his family (which includes my sweetie grandaughter Kaelynn.  Also Nikki, Daniel and Eric.  OMG!  I have some major cooking to do, don't I?   I'll sure have some pictues then. That is after I run back to work this morning and get my forgotten camera.

We are supposed to get snow this weekend also.  I really can't complain because we have had such a mild winter, but I HATE COLD AND SNOW!

Well - I'm off to do a little visiting before I start the day. It's not quite daylight yet so I still have some quiet time left.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thursday -- almost Friday

Whew!  It's almost Friday again.  The week sure did go fast for me.

There isn't anything new to report today.  We had a quiet night last night.  I made Shepherd's Pie for dinner (which I'm having for lunch right now), and we just settled in for some tv and my playtime with Eric.  Of course I forgot my camera at work again, so no pictures.

I was doing some reading and came across something I hadn't read for awhile.  It fit my mood lately.  Then again I've always loved to read Henri Nouwen and Bread for the Journey is a particularly good book.

I love the following, as I am not one to be known for my patience and I am forever worrying about what comes next, where I'm going, what's going to happen at such and such a time.  Yes, planning is great, but I need to heed Henri's words.  What do you think?

Often we want to be able to see into the future.  We say, 'How will next year be for me?   Where will I be five or 10 years from now?'   There are no answers to these questions.  Mostly we have just enough light to see the next step - what we have to do in the coming hour or the following day.  The art of living is to enjoy what we can see and not complain about what remains in the dark. When we are able to take the next step with the trust that we will have enough light for the step that follows, we can walk through life with joy and be surprised at how far we go. Let's rejoice in the little light we carry and not ask for the great beam that would take all our shadows away.  -  Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

I'm off to visit for awhile, between work and maybe play a little on MSN Messenger.  So -- bye till tomorrow or the next day!

All Is Well

Good Morning Everyone

Work is busy as it usually is when I am out a day, but I wanted to take a minute to say hello and let you all know that Kevin is doing very well after his surgery yesterday.  It was quite a day.  Sitting in the Hospital Lobby/Surgical Waiting Room for 5 hours is so NOT my idea of fun.  But I brought my book (J.D. Robb's newest in the Death Series "Memories In Death") so it was not as bad as it could have been.  Not to mention that I knew a few of the volunteers from my days as a Church Secretary.  They put the plate in Kevin's arm and the Doctor says he can go back to work Monday.  He was quite a character yesterday as he was a bit "loopy" from all the pain meds and the anethesia.  Kept falling asleep when I was talking to him (although that's not necessarily new).    He told me to say thank you to all of you who kept him in their thoughts and prayers yesterday and the days before his surgery.  He is much better this morning and his senses are much clearer.

On another note, now I'm really mad at the Super Bowl.  I taped Greys Anatomy because I knew it would be too late to watch it.  Last night I sat down to watch it and because of the game only got half of it.  The game went longer and for some reason I didn't think about changing the time.  Therefore, I was very "IRRITATED" when it shut off halfway through.   Oh well, at least I found out what Code Black was.  *Sigh

Ok - I must get back to work.  Hopefully I can finish up and find a little time to visit this afternoon!  Take care everyone and once again, thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Monday

So how was everyone's weekend.  Ours was ok.  Yes, we did watch the superbowl - I watched the whole thing so Kevin wouldn't watch it by himself.  I never realized how many little rules they have.  Too bad women didn't make the rules.  When I thought Seattle got that touchdown, Kevin said no because the one guy pushed the other.  Well hello?  It's football.  But it was because it was in the endzone.  Kinda silly if you ask me.  Football is football.  No pushing in the end zone kinds kinda sissy to me.

So what was everyone's favorite commercial.  Mine was the "Magic Refrigertaor" -- I thought that was great.  Click here to see

It's a quiet day today - the weather has cooled off alot.  It's barely in the 30's and there was a dusting of snow on the ground this morning.  Nothing else is going on here.  Kevin will be in surgery at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow.  I'll be sitting in the waiting room with my book (have to stop at Walmart on the way home).

I'm off to do a little visiting.  I'll make sure to get back for a bit tomorrow to let you all know how Kevin's surgery went.  Here's a cute joke my father in law sent.

DA VINCI CODE

Written across the wall of the cave were the following symbols:

It was considered a unique find and the writings were said to be at least three thousand years old!

The piece of stone was removed, brought to the museum, and archaeologists from around the world came to study the ancient symbols. They held a huge meeting after months of conferences to discuss the meaning of the markings.

The President of the society pointed to the first drawing and said: "This is a woman. We can see these people held women in high esteem. You can also tell they were intelligent, as the next symbol is a donkey,
so they were smart enough to have animals help them till the soil.
The next drawing is a shovel, which means they had tools to help them."

Even further proof of their high intelligence is the fish which means that if a famine hit the earth and food didn't grow, they seek food from the sea. The last symbol appears to be the Star of David which means they were evidently Hebrews.

The audience applauded enthusiastically.

Then an old Jewish scholar stood up in the back of the room and said,
"Idiots, Hebrew is read from right to left......
It says: 'Holy Mackerel, Dig The Ass On That Chick'

Another Good Old FRIDAY!

Good morning everyone.  Soggy, Soggy Friday morning!  BUT, who cares, it is Friday after all.

I want to thank my friend JAMI for pulling her bloggers together for prayers for Kevin's Surgery this coming Tuesday.  Go visit and say hello - she loves visitors.
Also another friend SKIP, who claims to be a Red Headed Squinty-Eyed Sex Trojan god-man.  LOL!  Go find out what that is.  He needs us to keep him occupied at work.

So did anyone notice the subtle change MSN made one again.  I went on my guest book to see if anyone said hello, and instead of having to hit NEXT 25 times (yes I'm slightly exagerating) to see the latest message, they had flipped them again and the most recent was first.  They did it with the comments also, so it took me a mintute to figure out what end was "up" so to speak.

Well Kevin went out last night to change the brake pads and rotors on Charlie's car, but couldn't get the caliper back on, so he will be out there again tonight (hopefully with the help of a friend) to get that back.  And of course, as it turns out, my car needs brake pads also, so Saturday that will get done.  I'll tell ya when it rains, it pours.  This coming directly after Kevin's broken window on the Eexplorer, and the fact that his driver side window won't go down (he thinks it's off the track).  GRRRRRRRRRRR...I think I'll buy us all bicycles and we can pedal our butts around.

Anyway, that is mostly what our weekend consists of.  Making sure things get done before Kevin's surgery because he will only have one arm after Tuesday.

I hope you all have a great weekend.
And Cindi -- stop looking at my desk!

Cha-Cha-Cha

Groundhog Day

Today a scruffy rodent named Phil saw his shadow in Punxsutawney, Pa., a sign that there will be six more weeks of winter.

You know it really won't be so bad if the winter continues to be mild.   What scares me is that I really don't think that it will last like this.  Murphy's Law you know.  I'll be back, I just need to catch up on some work.

Bits and Pieces

Good morning everyone.  Sorry I haven't been here lately.  Life interferes with my time on here more often lately.  So does my darn job.  LOL!

I've been online for awhile this morning trying to buy a new chip for my VERY outdated postal scale.  I finally concluded we did need a new one as I don't think they make the update chip any longer.   Ha…I bought a new one for the price I would have spent for the old chip.  I used the Office Supply Reward Coupons.  (*patting myself on the back..).

Although it is still cold here, we are having an unusually mild winter.  I hope I  haven't jinxed it by saying that.  I should just keep my mouth closed.

I was browsing MSN's home page and it I can't figure out why they have to take something so fun and positive and find a stupid negative about it:

Super Bowl host is America’s poorest big city

Sports spectacle’s lavish trappings sit uneasily atop decades of decline in Detroit.

Before the Super Bowl kickoff this weekend, private planes will land here, limousines will clog the streets and lavish parties will be thrown for those with famous names or lots of money.  The kitchens of Ford Field will be stocked with two tons of lobster.  Much of the rest of Detroit, though, is a landscape dotted with burned-out buildings, where liquor stores abound but supermarkets are hard to come by, and where drugs, violence and unemployment are everyday realities.

Check it out on the MSN page.  Now I ask you, how do "they" (whoever "they" are) determine that Detroit is the poorest city?  *sigh - I really get tired of negativity in the news.  It really bothers me.  Can't we just enjoy the Superbowl?  It's not about a city - it's about football.

And I still cannot figure out what Cindy Sheehan thinks she's accomplishing?  And what does Saddam Hussein think he's accomplishing by boycotting his own trial?

Ok - enough out of me about all that.  I probably don't know enough about politics, etc. to talk intelligently about them, or to defend my opinion on them.  I guess I'm seeing just the surface things.

Well, we found out that Kevin has to have surgery on his arm.  They will put a plate in it to help the bones grow together better.  The surgery is on February 7th.  That means he will be out of work for awhile.

Otherwise things are relatively quiet as they usually are at this time of the year.  With that note, I'll sign off and do some visiting to see what I've been missing.
