You know you're getting older when.....

you go to bed and get under the covers with your slippers still on.   Yep -- I did....but don't ask me to explain as I have no clue what I was thinking.  At least I noticed it right away.  Maybe I won't wear slippers anymore huh?

Well today is the day Jaime leaves for California.  I take him to the airport this afternoon.  He's so excited and I am excited for him, but anxious at the same time.  He does know that the trip to Cali is not a very long term thing.  It's another step in his training and that's how he is looking at it.  Me?  I hope he finds so much more than just another stop off in his training.  I want his dreams fulfilled but I also want a life outside those dreams for him.  Being a chef is his life - and he's said himself, who wants someone who devotes all his time to work.  My blessing for him is for him to find that someone to share his life with.

Other than that, the week has flown by. Monday found me in Renssaelear after work, picking up Jaime at the train.  We stopped in Albany on the way home so he could get a quick haircut.  I had to laugh.  I guess the big thing in NYC now is the Mohawk?  But not the bald one.  Just where the hair sticks up a bit like one on top.  His friend who owns the salon did it for him and decided to do the back too and he looked like Sonic the Hedgehog in the video game.  He kept telling me to stop laughing, that he was bringing New York to California.  He had a date with an old friend to go out to eat when we got home.  She was already at the house when we got there, and the first thing he did upon getting inside was to stick his baseball cap on.  That is after Charlie and Nikki saw him and had to comment.

Yesterday after work had me babysitting Eric while my crew headed to JC Penny Portrait studio to get a group picture done for my birthday.  It was the only thing I asked for so Nik arranged it.  They were bickering before they even left the house.  Nik looked so stressed..LOL!  Yep, that's my crew for  ya.

So there ya have my week so far.  I'm sure the weekend brings more kitchen and floor work, and I'm in need of another haircut.  I've put it off long enough.

Please send your prayers for Jaime's safe journey and I'll keep ya all posted!  Have a great day!

Early Morning Coffee time....

I just thought I would take a bit and say hello and enjoy my coffee before another busy weekend.  Eric will be headed down shortly as Nikki is getting ready for work and we decided to let Daniel sleep in a bit today.  He's been such a good and loving daddy.  Eric has a bit of a stomach virus yesterday and since Nikki was at work Daniel handled it very well with very few calls to Nik.  Poor little guy is still sleeping so he must be worn out.

We are starting the floor tile project today.  I've been wanting to replace the kitchen floor for so long I can hardly believe it's actually going to happen.  Hopefully we will find the door hardware we need at Lowe's this morning so we can finish off the little cupboard in the pantry before we start the floor.  If not - I will go to the place online that my friend Jay suggested and iti will wait another week.  Hopefully this weekend we will get both the pantry and mudroom done as planned, but with our Easter celebrations tomorrow that may be just a tad bit optimistic.

I did do small Easter baskets for the little ones.  Mostly art supplies...finger paints (won't the mom's love me), markers, art pads, etc., along with little bags of cookies, fruit bars and the little mini containers of Pringles the kids love.  Yep they each got a chocolate bunny and a few pieces of candy as well, but the mommy's prefer not much candy -- hmmm wonder why....LOL!  Can you say hyper?   Nikki got Eric a Fire truck that blows bubbles when you roll it.  Eric is crazy over bubbles.  He gets excited when he sees them on tv also.  And he loves wheels and things that spin, so Im guessing that will be his favorite toy for a bit.

Other than that, the weather still is very cold here -- actually the temps in the 30's and somtimes 40's, but the wind chill brings it way down to single didgets.  And boy can that wind blow.  I stepped outside to go to lunch yesterday and the wind nearly took my breath away.  I also discovered when I returned it's time for a haircut.  When I looked in the mirror after I got back my hair was standing straight up on my head from the wind.  I looked like I had a one of those mohawk haircuts.  It's a good thing I looked in the mirror though cause the guys at work would have let me stay like that and just laughed all day.  More Comedians...they are everywhere.

Ok - headed to the shower before Eric arises.  If he is feeling better today, chaos will reign shortly.  Lately he loves to run through the rooms and hear his feet pound.  Thank goodness we don't live in an apartment with people downstairs huh?   Have a good weekend everyone!

Whew - when did things get so busy?

The pantry redo went very well and spilled on over into the week.  As for the painting -- I did put on an old sweatshirt, but didn't pay any attention to which jeans I had on.  Paint drips alot unexpectedly you know.  Just when you think you have it under control on the roller, a big drip plops out.  Ruined one of my good dish towels trying to clean up quick and lets' just say I threw the jeans away along with the sweatshirt.  Everyone kept smiling funny at me whenever they talked to me and come to find out I had paint smeared under my nose and no one told me.  Comedians.  We had most things done on the weekend, but the boards wouldn't take the stain as well as the beadboard did.  It still looks lighter.  I think Kevin is about ready to tell me to live with it, but I'm too fussy.  The  hinges and latch on the door in the pantry are very hard to find (very old).  Home Depot and Walmart didn't have them so I'm thinking I might need to go online.  We'll try Lowe's tomorrow night when we go there for the floor tile for the pantry and mud room.  That means the cabinet in the pantry didn't yet get sanded and painted yet.  I keep the cleaning supplies in it and because we don't have the hardware we won't do the door yet so Eric can't get to them.  Yep, floor tile this weekend.  Sarcastic

I was sick on Monday with something similar to a migraine headache.  I couldn't sit up or barely move without getting dizzy and nauseous.  I really don't know if it's migraine or something related to sinus, but it's been a long while since I had one.  So I lost a day.

I can hardly believe Easter is here already.  Shopping for dinner and 3 small Easter baskets for the grandchildren has kept me busy.  The lost Monday didn't help.  Throw in much needed grocery shopping and laundry and whew -- it sure has gotten busy.  We are having a family dinner and then heading over to Kevin and Jamie's for dessert and grandchildren time.  Unfortunately Jaime (son) cannot make it home as he is working Easter Sunday.  He is coming home Monday and leaving for Cali on Wednesday late afternoon.  But we won't discuss that now -- I have a hard time with having him so far away from home.

At work it's Sales Tax time and all "finance friends" of mine out there know what a pain that is.  No one wants to mess with those people so I am extra vigiliant.  I'll be mailing that huge check out today from work and that will lighten the load a bit for me here.

So -- guess I'll post this so you all won't think I've disappeared into thin air.  Maybe after the sales tax is mailed I might get to go visit. Open-mouthed

Weekend

I just wanted to stop in to say hello and wish everyone a fun weekend.  Myself, I'll be swinging a hammer and dippin the brush in paint to redo the pantry.  Hopefully I'll find time to stop and do some visiting....take care!

I'm looking out at little bitty snow flurries, hoping they float away somewhere else.  Sarcastic

It's very quiet here at work for the last few days.  The economy slowing and all, there aren't many jobs going on at present.  Usually I will do 20 to 25 invoices in a day, and I'm down to maybe 10 at the most.  Customers payments are still coming, but slower than usual.  There are quite a few job bids out, but the jobs will not start till late Spring or in the case of the school jobs, summer.

I guess with a little time on my hands, I can add something to my space that I've been thinking about for a bit.  I love making new friends and it occured to me that anyone new coming to my space may not know the family members or friends that I am speaking about in my blog.  I've had it for close to 3 years now and while there are a few friends that have been with me from the beginning -- or for long enough to know the cast of characters in my life, newcomers may wonder about relationships or references to something I may have blogged of before.  I certainly can't expect my new friends to go all the way back 3 years and try to figure things out.  So -- today I will work on a little "Cast of Characters" so to speak.  I should have it finished by tomorrow.

The drama with our Governer goes on and everyone is waiting for his decision regarding his resignation (or non-resignation).  The news today is full of the fact that there was not just one indescretion, but quite a few more.  Meanwhile, Mr. Spitzer remains silent, putting as his first priority, the mending of  his family.  As it should be, I think.  As for myself, I am reserving my opinion until I hear from Mr. Spitzer himself, rather than the news media and other politicians.  A friend recently traveled to Washington D.C. with his family and his description of a part of his travels filled me with such pride in the US.  It felt good to read of a dad, showing his children our country's history, things they only read about.  We have a great country and it needs great leaders.  Mr. Spitzer has disappointed me as a role model and representative of our country.  Although, as badly as I feel for his family -- I cannot help but feel badly for him as well.  He has to live with his part in this scandal, and with the hurt he has caused his family.  I don't profess to know what goes on inside his private family life, but regardless -- there is much hurt there now I guess.

Ok -- on to a bit of work and to my "cast of charaters" -- that should keep me busy today.  All of you have a great day!
OH -- As I typed this - the snow flurries went away!  Open-mouthed

It has to be my imagination, but for the last 3 mornings I have absolutely not wanted to wake up and get out of bed.  Usually I'm awake before the alarm.  I know that the clocks are set an hour ahead, but that shouldn't bother me, as besides getting up an hour early, I'm also going to bed an hour early.  So here I sit all droopy eyed with my coffee, wishing it was Saturday and I could go back to bed.

Well by now you may have heard the news of our New York Governor, Elliot Spitzer, being involved in a Washington Prostitution ring.  That's all that's been on TV here since yesterday afternoon.  I had such high hopes when he was elected into office and I can hardly believe that (to me) he's been just one disappointment after another.   First wanting to give illegal aliens driver's licenses, tax illegal drugs and now this.  I didn't read the newspaper this morning because it will just be a rehashing of everything on tv yesterday.  To my knowledge he has not made a decision about resigning yet, although I will glance at the front page to see if that's still true.

It's been a bit busy around here lately - kinda nice actually.  Nikki is loving her job and busy with training.  She was trained in taking shots yesterday, and the Manager says she hardly needs any training at that, as she is good at posing people.  She has fun getting the kids to smile and laugh for the pictures as well.

I booked Jaime's flight to Cali for him yesterday. He will be leaving March 26, flying into San Diego to visit a friend for a few days, and then heading North for his job.  He goes on the payroll on April 10th.  His final destination is Hermosa Beach area - which I've been to and loved.  When I was there it was a major surf town and my kind of beach place.  Now I know where all the change I've been saving is going to.

We continued discussing with the kids, renting the place in Delaware for a week this summer, but Charlie and Daniel will be working and unable to take a whole week off.  Their work is seasonal and they work as much as they can.  Nik with her new job doesn't want to ask for time off and is hesitant about taking Eric out of school for a week.  Kevin and Jamie just got back from Florida and don't know if they can take another week either.  Sooooo - mom and pop might just fly to Calif for a week to see Jaime and mom can lounge on the beach forever.

Kevin and I are undertaking a major redo of our walk in pantry this weekend.  Even with cleaning it out and such it looks dingy and I never did get to paint it this winter like I planned.  We are painting it, putting in new shelves which I will stain to match the beadboard in our kitchen, as well as scraping the paint off from around the small window and staining that as well.  New hardware for the cupboard that is in there too.  I will take before and after pictures for those of you who are into makeovers.  I totally am.  I love the before and after things.  I have my friend Jay to thank for the redoing bug I've gotten.  I also have plans for the back hallway going into the cellar, but I haven't told Kevin about that yet.

Well the coffee is doing it's job and I'm feeling a bit more awake.  Guess I'll go scan the newspaper after all.  I really will be awake after the blast of freezing air I'll get from getting the newpaper off the front porch.  Have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone!

OK - It's about time I got back into my regular blogging routine.  I noticed my Archives the other day and realized that in May it will be 3 years since I've started this space.  I've made some fantastic friends, some who have hung around and put up with me, some who have drifted off, one I have even met personally.  I have been feeling bad for neglecting my visiting and keeping my space updated.  Well -- enough is enough.  Action -- feeling badly isn't solving anything.  But doing something about it will.

Nikki started her new job yesterday.  Jamie (girl) works at a Photography/Portrait studio and was able to recommend Nik for a job as well.  Nic is excited and I am excited for her.  She works hard and devotes all her time to Eric and it's nice for her to get out a bit and to earn some extra money for herself.  She was a wreck yesterday morning -- "mom I think I'm gonna throw up"  -- nervous about starting the job, but more nervous about the new routine with Eric.  She didn't want to be away from him.  The old "nobody can care for him like I do".  By the time she got home she was lovin it and had us all laughing with stories about the kids being photographed and how busy her first day was.

It was a gorgeous day Thursday and Friday - temps above 50 degrees.  There is rain predicted for today and some flood watches, but the temp is 45 which I can live with.  The rest of the week is supposed to be sunny and 40ish.

Well we turn our clocks ahead when we go to bed tonight.  But already it's staying light out later and even getting lighter earlier.  I'm going to have another cup of coffee and head out for some long overdue visiting.  Then -- I'm going to dig into this Spring Cleaning -- I hope it's warm enough to open the windows to air out the house a bit.  In between the rain that is.  Till later!

Stirring to life...

Is it almost garage sale season?  No -- I don't want to sell the garage -- LOL!  I have so much stuff that needs to get out of my basement.  Thousands of books, clothes, some that are worn only once.  There's Erics brand new baby clothes that he never got the chance to wear because he was not that size that certain season.  Candle holders, dishes, CD's and cassettes, movies old picture frames --- and on and on.

Also, I'm starting to feel the itch for Spring Cleaning.  Even Caroldee is "spring cleaning" her Space.  Even thought the weather isn't warmer, as it's raining ice today.  I know I probably feel this way every winter, but they seem to get longer each year.

And, I'm getting tired of my "winter dinners" and am ready for some BBQ Chicken and hamburgers and Mac salad.  Watermelon - Budlights by the pool.  Chicken wings and soft ice cream cones.

It seems strange to be seeing Easter things in the store, patio sets are now in the flyers along with BBQ grills and lots of gardening things.  Daffodils and tulips are in the grocery store floral section.  It's great - now if only the weather would play along.

Suffice to say there really isn't much new here, but I am starting to feel little stirrings of life again.  Reading Jay's blog about her remodeling, and Jane is saying she's seeing spouts of grass here and there, has me looking around here for my own signs of Spring. Of course we will have to get through the rainy season, but who cares as long as he temps rise.

LOL - I just read this thing over and if it isn't the most disjointed, rambling blog I've ever written, I don't know of another.  But I'm gonna go with it because my last blog says it's Thursday, and that was a week ago.  Yep, I'm feeling little stirring of life.  Hey --- the sun just came out and is shining like crazy.  Is that a sign???  Please let it be a sign of spring.
