31 mars Checking In.....Ummm - the coffee tastes good this morning with my onion bagel. I'm all caught up at work until the mailman gets here with more, so I thought I would take a minute and let you all know I'm still around. Life has gotten pretty busy lately, and with that and the emotional ups and downs of Nik moving, and bringing my dad to chemo, and finding out that my dear sweet father has put the house on the market, and is moving farther away. What's up with that dad? We had a wedding to go to, yard to clean....etc...
Anyway, just to let you all know, Dad is doing very well with the chemo. Not any nausea (now that he is eating the right things afterwards), just a bit tired. Of course he has lost his hair, and beard and moustache, but honestly, he looks kinda cute that way. His bandana keeps his head warm. He has put the house on the market, and while I really hate to see him move farther away, I think having that big house and all that land, is just simply too much for one person. He has gotten a smaller house in Newcomb which is where my sister lives. Darn them -- they simply have to live in the boonies right? Well, I guess that means longer visits, rather than more frequent.
Nikki moves into her apartment today - the school bus will pick Eric up at 7:30 at the new place tomorrow. I had to laugh at the expression on Nik's face. Right now the bus comes at 8:30 -- now she will have to get herself up at 6:30 to dress Eric and give him breakfast. I helped move some things with her yesterday, and the apartment if very nice and just the perfect size for them. I do get such a kick out of her little Facebook and MySpace comments. On Myspace she counted down the days - and on Facebook little comments like -- "almost there" ... Geez, one would think she was desparate to get away from me. Actually she is more excited than anything. She'll miss me I know.
On that note - I have to end for now, as I keep getting sidetracked by work, and losing my train of thought. I'll be back soon though -- really I will. My space needs redecorating, and I want to spend a bit of time today visiting and see what I'm missing. Take care everyone -- and enjoy your day!
19 mars Picture DayLittle man was having his pictures taken at school on Tuesday, which also corresponded with St. Patricks's Day. I can't wait to see how they turned out. The teachers said he thought the photographer was so funny. Below he is just chillin and getting ready for the bus. Anyway - I hope everyone is having a good week!
16 mars Nice weekends and fabulous daughtersThe weekends go just too fast lately. It was another beautiful one here - temps in the high 50's and I believe it might have reached 60 yesterday.
I took little man shopping with me yesterday morning. He was so good and he was excited to be outside. It will become our regular routine on Sunday mornings to take him with me. Although starting with the Sundays in April, I will have to stop by the new apartment to pick him up.
Yes, Nikki and Daniel found their own place and will be moving in beginning April 1st. Possibly the weekend before. The owner says she can start moving things in the week before. It's a nice little 2 bedroom duplex with a good sized yard on a quiet street. Perfect for them. Only about a mile from here. She is so excited to finally have her own home. I am excited for her, but boy will I miss having them here.
On the other hand, I do have my Charlie back for a little bit. He decided he needed to manage his money a bit better and be better prepared. Seems he had enough to pay his rent and such, but nothing much leftover. It was fine when he was working, but he is becoming aware fast that seasonal work needs planning ahead financially. Counting on snowplowing and such in the winter isn't the smartest plan -- um what if it doesn't snow? He really loves the landscaping and outside work he does (even the sealcoating and paving). Too bad we didn't live in a warm all year round kinda place. He will get the hang of it eventually I'm sure. I've went through the same with my other 3 before him. Advising and trying to help do no good. My kids are the ones who need to learn themselves - the hard way. They are all great kids -- just stubborn, independent know it alls - lol -
I picked Nik up at work yesterday. Daniel had the car to have new brakes put on. Little man stayed home with grandpa having a late lunch and cooking the corned beef dinner. We decided to take a quick look in JC Penny's as I desparately need a new wallet. I found a great purse as well, but both were not in budget. Before I knew what was happening, Nik had paid for them and we were on our way to the car. She explained that she wanted to get me something for my birthday that I really wanted.
Me: "Nik my birthday isn't for another month"
Nik: "So what mom - who says you can't get a present now?"
Me: "But Nik - you said you already got me a present - you've been teasing me about it for 2 weeks now"
Nik: "No mom - Eric got you that present"
Me: "But Nik, you have a new apartment that needs things"
Nik: "Please let me do this mom -- It makes me happy to do it"
Shut me right up. I have the greatest daughter in the world. What she doesn't know, is that I have the most perfect housewarming gift in mind - and now there's no doubt she will get it.
I took Friday afternoon off and so Nik and I went to the mall to look at pots and pans and other things for her apartment. KMart is the only store with Layaway and that really helps her get the things she wants without having to pay them all at once. We also had lunch at our spot (99 diner). I got the chance to tell her how proud I am of her for working so hard, and for the way she cares for Eric. She loves her job and is a wiz at making it work without taking away from her care of Eric. Anyway, it was a great afternoon as usual.
Well, I have to get back to work. It's once again Sales Tax week and now we have to do it online, so I need to set that up and get to work on it. Take care everyone and I hope your weekend was as good as mine....
Here's a picture of Nik and I at lunch Friday, at 99 Diner
7 mars Yes Debbie -- there is a SpringI'm so glad it is going to be warmer today. I have all sorts of things planned. Whether they all get done or not is beside the point. If even half get done I'll be happy. It's supposed to get above 50 today, coupled with the time change it really does feel like Spring will get here. Of course my yard is a mess of branches and such from the ice storm and the recent winds, so today will be the day to pick that up. There is someones garbage can top in the side yard - and on trash day bits of newspaper and such escaped someones trash, but mostly it's the little bits and big bits of branches I see.
I went Thursday and bought a booster seat for my car for Eric. It's frustrating to want to take Eric with me on an errand, only to remember that Nikki has her car and his carseat at work. So I'll go over and vacuum out my car, run it through the car wash and install the seat. Ususally I do all that here, but the hose is still stored for the winter and I don't want to drag out the shop vac. Quicker to do it all at once in one place.
I'm gong to open the living room and dining room windows for some airing out and clean my overstuffed dusty bookshelf. I currently have 10 hardcover books (stacked on top of a dozen magazines) to the left of me next to my computer and if I put anymore on top, it will topple over. I need take some books out of the shelf for our garage sale and make room for them. The books for the garage sale are very old ones that I have read quite a few times and probably will not read again. Remember Phyllis Whitney? She no longer writes (that I know of) but at one time she was my favorite author.
Hubby will roll his eyes when I mention the garage sale, as we never had one last year like planned. It was just something we never got around to. But Nikki and I are bound and determined that this year we are having it. She has so many little boy clothes, toys, shoes and coats that Eric has outgrown. And I have tons of books, clothes, sets of dishes and things that never get used anymore. So let him roll his eyes all he wants -- he won't when he has to help cart all this stuff from the basement when it's time. I bet he will be scouring the workshop and garage for his own garage sale items.
While I'm out doing the car thing, I thought I would stop and get my hair cut. Kevin has his friend Mattie coming by to do Eric's light in his room. We hit Home Depot last night for the light and switch. We did forget the switch cover though so a quick run in Walmart is also on the list. I want to also look into getting a gate of some type to put across the steps on the front porch so Eric can enjoy the fresh air without us having to keep telling him not to go down the stairs. He gets mad at us because he wants to run around outside. He has the cutest little scowl I've ever seen. Looks just like his mother when she was that age.
Hmmm - am I getting carried away by this 50 degree weather? LOL! Yes! Yes I am and it feels great. I know that it may snow again (and probably will) and it's headed back down into the 30's during the week.....but today, I don't care. I'm putting on a sweatshirt and hiding my coat in the back of the closet. I feel my energy and movtivation coming back again. I haven't even written half of the list I have next to me.
It's 6:15 - better get started. Have a great weekend all of you! 4 mars SnowYep, snowing hard too. I don't want to talk about it though. Stupid snow....
LOL - I wrote the above on Monday from work. Thankfully we got barely 2 inches if that and it has all gone now, in spite of the below zero temps we had yesterday. We are West of Albany and it was East of Albany that received all the snow.
I never did get to finish this update at work, the phone started ringing and we had a huge truck delivery so I helped with customers. Business has finally picked up a bit with all the projects planned through the winter that are beginning to start up.
So how was everyone's weekend? Mine was nice. We didn't get as much done as we wanted. The trip to Home Depot turned into an all out search through the city. We went to Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target and Wolberg Electric which is a lighting showroom. We still couldn't find what we were looking for. I guess the lights that hang on the wall with the cords that plug into an outlet are outdated and no longer made. We just wanted a simple one to put in Eric's room and Kev was going to put a strip that goes over the cord so Eric couldn't get to it. I've seen it done before and it looked satisfactory to me that he wouldn't get to the cord. We just don't want to rip up the sheetrock for one simple light fixture. We even went to the Goodwill store to see if there were any there that someone may have given up. So - I guess we will have to do it the hard way. Kevin has his friend Mattie coming by next Saturday to install one for us. He claims that he doesn't have to mess up the sheetrock to do it. He is an electrician so he must know what he's talking about. Kevin is pretty handy around the house, but he won't mess with electricity.
I guess we are on a warming trend -- today's high will be 30 degrees with it going up through the week into the 40's. Nope, no signs yet of Spring here, other than all the Easter stuff in the stores, along with tulip and daffodil bulbs for sale.
So - as you can see - there is not much new here. The sun is shining this morning and my cinnamon toast is ready (I'm at work) so I'll end here and go indulge myself. Cinnamon Toast and hot coffee - yep - life is good! |
