    Love those Thunderstorms

You know, as much as I love thunderstorms, three days in a row (yesterday, today and tomorrow) is a little much.  It would be ok if there was no rain with it.  Oh well, at least it's during the week rather than on the weekend, and it waited till Memorial Day weekend was over.

The actual thunderstorm last night was great though.  I was in Walmart getting pool chemicals and had to hurry because the lights were flickering.  I didn't want to do all that shopping only to not be able to check out if the power went out.  By the time I got home it was coming down hard and the wind was blowing sheets of water everywhere.  I was afraid to get out of the car.  When I finally did get in (via the front door as it was closer) it was in full fury.  We lost our phone service (it wasn't on till about 9:00 a.m.).  So we will see what the storm tonight is like.

Speaking of Memorial Day weekend we had a great one.  I hope everyone else did as well.  It was just what I love it to be.  There was lots of family, lots of outside and lots of food and fun.  The pool is open (luckily enough we hadn't put the chemicals in yet, as the rain would screw them up) - the yard is starting to look summery again.

Mexico plans are coming along nicely.  I have to get a passport which I've never done.  I've gotten the application online, I just need to find out where I bring it, and how much it costs.

Well - not much else going on other than work and such.  I'm going to do some long overdue visiting.  Take care!  Oh - here's another blonde joke -- BTW - I really don't think blondes are dumb, the jokes are just funny.

A young ventriloquist is touring the clubs and one night he's doing a show in a small town in Arkansas.

With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes when a blonde woman in the 1st row stands on her chair and starts shouting: "I've heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype women that way? What does the color of a person's hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It's guys like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community and from reaching our full potential as a person. Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general...and all in the name of humor."

The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize,  saying "I really am sorry if I offended you, Ma'am --  " when the blonde  interrupts him and yells, "You stay out of this, mister, I'm talking to that little shit on your knee."

    Thoughts for Memorial Day

The anthropologist and naturalist, Loren Eiseley, who died in 1977, wanted this epitaph for his wife and himself: “We loved the earth, but could not stay.”

No one can stay, of course. We all are moving inexorably toward that final day when “the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over, and our work is done” (Book of Common Prayer).

This Memorial Day we particularly remember the men and women who have perished in war, giving the ultimate sacrifice to make the world a better place. They too “loved the earth, but could not stay.” May God hasten the day when we can solve our disputes peacefully.

We also remember all our loved ones whose stay on Earth is over. Christians believe that death does not end all. We trust that the God who made us will provide for us when our bodies can no longer sustain us.

A memorial stone on the campus of the College of Wooster in Ohio, placed there by a class many years ago, reads:

    United in time
    Divided in time
    To be reunited
When time shall be no more.

That is a hope we can have for ourselves, our loved ones and those who sacrificed all.

I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day and I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

    Updating - Finally!

The cold weather is starting to turn warm.  Finally!!  For awhile there I thought winter was coming back.

Not much new to tell about.  I've done a lot of Spring cleaning, work has been busy and the rain has not permitted me to do as much outside as I'd like.  Now that it is getting better, we can get out and finish yardwork and planning - including opening the pool this Saturday.  Memorial Day weekend is supposed to be beautiful.

Sorry I haven't been updating as much as usual.  Been having mood swings lately - one minute I'm great and happy, then for no apparent reason I feel down and like something is wrong but there isn't.  I know it's part of my "change of life" (sorry guys) and at my age I do expect it, but it's such a pain.  I'll start an update on my blog and the next thing you know I have no brain power as what to say so I don't say anything.

I noticed they are canceling some really good shows this season - it's a shame really.  I'm not a big fan of the reality shows and the like but they never seem to get cancelled.  They just seem to multiply.  And of course my show "24" is not on again until January.  I always thought that new seasons started in the fall.  I think January is a long time to wait.

I had to tape Steven King's "Desparation" last night.  I knew that if I tried to stay up till 11:00 I would be exhausted today, and once I started watching it I would want to finish.  Now I can watch it on my time.  I also need to get out to see the DaVinci Code.  I don't want to wait till it comes out in DVD.  The book was great and found the controversy a little amusing.  It was a movie - a work of fiction as the author says.  That's the way I viewed it.  And I had to laugh when the critics said Tom Hanks was "glum and confused".  Um….his character in the book was a little glum and definitely confused as to what was going down.  I mean it sounds like he played his part well.  Oh well -- I'll form a better opinion after I see it.

Kevin Jr. came and picked up all the rocks around the pool.  We had it circled in white rocks (about 20 bags), but we were tired of taking care of it (pulling up weeds and picking out the leaves.  We gave them to Kev for his pool and we are letting grass grow around it.  So…out with the grass seed this weekend.  It will be much easier to take care of that way.  (there's the age thing again)….

I'm off to do some visiting.  I hope everyone is well and happy.  Till later!

    Rambling On...

It's a rainy, cloudy day today in Upstate New York.  At least it is in my part anyway.  But it's Friday so who cares?  The flowers need it anyway.

So what are everyone's plans for the weekend?  We are getting closer and closer to Memorial Day weekend.  I sure can use a three day weekend.  This weekend it is supposed to rain on and off both days, so I'm Spring Cleaning my kitchen.  Nik is bringing the baby over which is fabulous cause I can't seem to get enough of him.  We might even go out to lunch.

I've heard from my girlfriend Kathie by email today that the trip to Cancun Mexico is all planned for November.

I can't remember if I mentioned that here.  All 5 of us grew up together and were best friends since 2nd grade.  Even after my mom died and I moved from New Jersey, we remained friends and see each other as much as we can.  Well, we all turn 50 this year and decided we needed a "girls trip."  Kathie's husband is a Travel Agent and arranged the trip.  We all need to let her know for sure if we are going (Hell Yes) - and send half the money.  Considering the fact that the trip is only $860 all total (including air, hotel, food and drinks), how can I say no?  Now I have to come up with $430 somehow.  I've gotta do some fancy bookkeeping for that.  But if I need to I will take an advance on my salary and pay a little back each week.  That should be the best bet.  Anyone ever been to Cancun Mexico?

I ran over on mylunch hour and bought a few flats of impatiens to mess with this weekend.  I want to pot some for work, some to give to Nik and some for the kitchen window.  Of course it was raining and all the flowers are outside at Walmart so I'm a little damp.  At least I wasn't the only one getting wet.  Stupid rain.

Well I'm off to visit -- have a great weekend everyone and behave yourselves!

    Sometimes I Can't Believe Myself ! Grrrrrrr

I wrote a whole great big update and would you believe that instead of hitting publish, I hit Cancel.  I am so MAD!

I don't think I can recreate it, as I have spent the last 2 hours typing it between customers and work.  I have been so busy here it's been hard to get on and update, although I did get to visit a little.

First - check out the star above.  It is for the Fourth of July Guestbook signing event.  It's pretty neat.  Click on it and check it out.  I joined.

So - I did have a nice dinner with my friend Karyn on Friday.  We caught up on the last year and we made plans to go to lunch in Manhatten at Jaime's Restaurant (well, it's where he works, not that he owns it) this summer.  It was also nice to walk around the mall and see summer clothes out.  Wedges are back!  I love those sandals and can't wait to get a few pair.  I feel so much taller in them.  I'm 5'5" and I do think I've shrunk a little besides that.

Mother's Day was great.  Nichole and I shared it and we all went to dinner at Smokey Bones.  Great Ribs and such...We had the whole deal.  Appetizers and all.  I loved sharing it with her.  Watching her be a mom and holding my grandbaby.  Charlie hates restaurants, but he went also and we had a great time.  I am waiting till this coming Saturday to get my flowers to plant, as it was pouring rain and I couldn't get them this weekend.  Kevin Jr. and Jaime called.

Jaime was just leaving Vegas (he went there for a wedding) and had won a bit of money.  It was enough to enable him to stay and extra day.  He's back in Manhatten at work now, but says he had a great time.  A few days in Vegas sounds pretty good to me about now.

Well - I know I haven't remembered everything - and I'm still madder than hell at myself for hitting the wrong button.  I'm going to go do some visiting, as I miss my friends.  Meanwhile, don't forget to check out Giselle's Site and see what's it about.  And take care!

    Yea - It's Friday

I wish I would have taken today off also - it was hard getting up this morning with it being all rainy and gloomy.  Yesterday was nice even though not as warm as it has been.

Charlie's birthday was nice and Nikki and the baby stayed overnight.  I spent the day with the baby while she got some much needed "hang out" time.  She visited with friends and went shopping with Charlie.  Eric and I went to visit "Grandpa" at his job so he could be showed off some more.  We played a lot too.  I love how each time I see him he can do more and more.  He has developed a lot of his own personality and laughs and is so fun.  Just to watch his little face light up brings me joy.  Yep - I'm easily amused nowadays.

I'll leave you with a funny -- share with hubby at your own risk!  Enjoy your weekend and

    Happy Mothers Day !

Warning! Don't leave your retired husband alone in the store:

    Dear Mrs. Fenton,

    14. December 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumes the fetal position and screams "NO! NO! It's those voices again!!!!"

    (And; last, but not least!)
    15. December 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door and waited a while; then, yelled, very loudly,
"There is no toilet paper in here!"

    Quick Hello

This picture reminded me so much of my boys (Jaime, Kevin and Charlie) I had to show you all.

I have tomorrow off for Charlie's birthday.  I am making him cupcakes (he prefers that over cake) and lasagna (or as he calls it "that layered thing").  I can hardly believe he is already 17.  I miss him "little".  Charlie is picking Nikki and Eric up tomorrow morning.  It will be a nice day off.

I'll be back on Friday to do some visiting and say hello.

    Happening for the Week

Monday afternoon, work almost done and I'm getting sleepy.  What's with all this getting sleepy lately.  I did go to bed at a reasonable hour after all.

I was reading back on all my old entries from when I started this blog.  You know I seemed so much cheerier (is that a word?) back then.  Reading back sure helps you learn a lot about yourself. Have I been whiny and negative lately.  It sure does seem like it since going through all those entries.

The weekend was great.  Nichole and I went to Old Navy shopping and took the baby with us.  He was so good and so fun.  The faces he makes cracks me up.  Then we went to lunch at Applebee's.  And the weather was gorgeous on Sunday.  It feels so nice to be able to sit outside in the sunshine.

This week brings Charlie's 17th birthday, his bowling banquet and I'm going out to my annual birthday dinner with my friend Karen.  Our birthdays are exactly one week apart and we go out for dinner every year.  We've decided on 99 Diner (no Nichole, I'm not cheating, it's our place for lunch, not dinner).   I'm hoping this week also continues the summer weather we are getting.  And also is the end of all those little darn green thingies coming off the trees and covering my porch.  (stupid falling green things).  They are also all over the pool cover and since there is a little water in there it will be hell to clean.

Here's a little thing to check out.  It's kinda creepy but neat at the same time.  Turn up the sound.

    Weekend time again

    img154/1041/snoopy0qg.jpg

Hello everyone - I just wanted to stop by to wish everyone a nice weekend.

Today is dragging by and I know that it's because it's Friday and in the high 70's today.  I was up late last night watching Mummy Returns (till midnight and the darn commercials are half hour long it seems) and I keep getting sleepy.  Never again on a work night.  This body needs it's sleep.  I'll probably go home and fall asleep.   Zzzzzzzzzzzz...Take care!

    Look for Jupiter

Here it is Wednesday once again - the weeks are flying by.

Not much is happening right now, other than our area is turning green and the flowers and hostas are starting to bloom.  It looks wonderful.  Now when I sit and have my coffee in the moring, it is lighter before I am done and I can see the green out the window.  I don't shiver anymore when I pick the morning paper off the porch.

I'm busy filling my calendar with summer events.  Barbeques, a river cruise, bowling banquets, a graduation, Memorial Day plans, etc.

Speaking of calendars, I saw on my calendar that tonight I might be able to see Jupiter.  I  love stars, and sky shows like meteors and shooting stars, etc.  Check it out.

    Jupiter Shines Brightest Tonight

Look southeast after dark this month and you'll see a bright white "star." This is the planet Jupiter, shining so brightly that you can't miss it. Today, the giant planet is at its closest point to Earth for the year.

Jupiter blazes so bright mostly because it's a big planet, but also because on May 3 it is at opposition: positioned opposite the sun in our sky and at its nearest to Earth for the year. Jupiter will remain nearly as bright for the rest of May and throughout the coming summer, since it doesn't get much farther from us even several months after opposition. It will be the "star" of all the warm-weather nights in 2006.

Well - here's to a great Hump Day to all of you.  It's been quiet here and I do hope that it's because everyone is busy with their lives and getting out and doing things.  Take care!

    Monday and Tuesday

More busy days after a beautiful weekend.  In the 70's and sunny all weekend and continued on today.   I did a few things on Saturday (errands and such) and we had Kevin's birthday BBQ on Sunday with all the little ones running around.  It was alot of fun and so good to get outside for the whole day.  I haven't been around visiting yet...but I hope everyone else had a nice weekend as well.

OK - today's the day!  I'm going back to the gym.  With Nikki living too far to go with me, my friend Esther has asked if she could go with me, which means I have to go.  I have the membership - she's the free guest.  I guess I need the motivation.  I really have none about going alone - Esther will push me as I need to be pushed.  I realized at the BBQ on Sunday that I'm trailing behind on getting into shape for my summer clothes.

    Today is Kevin's birthday

    Happy Birthday Honey!!

There are no special plans today as we had the celebration on Sunday, but I'm sure the kids will be stopping by or calling.

Now I need to do some visiting.  Hopefully today at work won't be too busy and I can get back here again.  I have been sadly neglecting my blog lately.
