Saturday already?

It looks like we may get some rain today and the prediction of thunderstorms looks a bit more likely as well.  I love thnderstorms so I can live with that. Maybe tomorrow will be much nicer and the pool will get opened this weekend after all.  Kevin is about finished repainting my front porch chairs.  We got them about 6 years ago and they were long overdue for a spray paint adventure.  I chose red and they are coming out great.  They will look nice on the front porch (our house is a sand color with white railings.  And somday, I will find my hanging baskets with red flowers to go with it all and my lighthouse windchime will look great there too.  So come next week we can resume our nightly "sit on the front porch in the evening and visit with the neighbors" routine.

The week went quickly. I don't know if it was because it was a short one, or just that it was a busy one.  Nik's car still isn't fixed and I guess I'm totally amazed with that.  I wonder if other people who have Esurance have the same problems she is having with a claim.  We cannot even get anyone to answer the phone there so we can complain.  Does anyone know who to complain to when you have a terrible insurance company?  The man went out to see the car at the body shop and gave the man who is fixing it such a hard time about parts and such.  We know the guy personally for years and he is an honest guy so there was no reason for that.  When he mentioned the episode to a fellow shop owner the guy asked who the insurance company was and replied "yeah - good luck getting paid" - now Gary our friend is reluctant to fix the car.  Nik is so upset and like I said, we cannot reach anyone at the company.  Either no one answers or we get voicemail and no return calls.   I may get Nik to call the Better Business Bureau on Monday -- I'm not even sure if that's who we call for help.  It's going on 2 weeks with no progress and no car.   Meanwhile, we all are scrambling to get everyone where they need to go.

Nik has to work today and so does Daniel, so Eric gets to spend the day with me and his Pop-pop.  We need to make a trip to Lowes, so we will time that between the rain and predicted thunderstorms.  Maybe it will clear up later in the afternoon so we can take him in the yard.  He loves it there.

On that note, I'm going to grab another coffee and visit everyone.  Spaces has been so quiet lately -- I miss everyone.  Have a great weekend!

Back to the old routine...

A nice quiet morning where I finally feel rested and awake.  It was a busy weekend, with much to do and I can feel us going headfirst into summer.  I did take Monday to try to rest up, and enjoy the sunshine while sitting outside with my book.  There was still a meal to get ready and laundry to do, and a run to the store (again) was needed, but I just wanted to take an hour or two, read my book and watch Eric play.  So I did.

Wednesday morning Nik was in a car accident (she's fine) on her way to keep an insurance appointment for Eric while he was in school.  An elderly lady (age 94) was stopped (no stop sign) to the right of Nikki as she came up on her stop sign.  She stopped and waited for the lady to go, even waving her on, but the lady just sat there, so Nik inched out to go, right at that moment the woman decided to go, hitting the front of Niks car and bending the tire and pushing in the area around it.  Nik called me crying so I headed there.  The poor elderly woman was so confused and I felt badly for her.  The accident appeared to be my daughters fault because of the stop sign, but because of the circumstances the officer did not issue her a ticket.  As of today, she still does not have her car back, because it turns out the lady gave the wrong insurance information, and no one could reach her company.  The autobody shop cannot start work till statements are made and the car looked at.  Weird thing that happened?  After giving her insurance info to the officer, the lady drove off (her car was really not drivable, as the fender was rubbing into the tire, but the officer let her go).  After Jamie (girl) arrived on the scene to be with Nikki so I could head back to work, I left.  I drove around the corner and came to a stop sign (heading back toward the scene of the accident) and came upon the lady sitting at a stop sign.  It was a four way stop.  The very same thing happened.  I waved her on and nothing happened.  Meanwhile, another car came up to his stop sign on my right.  He sat there waiting for me to go, so I did, slowly like I believe Nikki must have done.  I made it and just as I made the left she went.  This lady can barely see over the seering wheel.  I just felt so badly for her as she really did seem confused.  By then the office had left, but I can't help but wonder didn't he notice?  Especially after we found out she told the officer she didn't know which way she was headed.

Anyway, long story short, we finally were able to reach her via the accident report to ask her to please call her real insurance company and report the accident.  Come to find out, she told her insurance company there was so much traffic she didn't know what was going on.  There was only she and Nikki there, and it's a quiet residential street.  No other cars were around and I think maybe two passed while we were there.  Hopefully Nik will have the car back this week.  Bad thing is that they are still trying to make Nikki take the blame for the accident because of the stop sign.   Hopefully this will all be sorted out soon because we are scrambling and such to make sure Eric gets to school everyday and Nikki to work.  I'm so thankful I have an understanding boss.

We spent most of the weekend outside in the yard.  My niece came down with her new boyfriend, and some of the kids friends, who we have known forever, stopped by.  Food was plenty, my kitchen was a disaster area.  LOL!  The sun was shining and everyone was having a great time being outside.  This coming weekend we are opening the pool.  I think all the whirly bird thingies from the tree across the street are done so we won't have a pool full.  Just a hard time keeping them out of the pool when we take the cover off.  They are everywhere.

Wow have I ever rambled on.  Time to get ready for work -- take care all and enjoy the rest of your week.

Thought I would share this - it's great

THE SNEEZE

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into the
already crowded auditorium.
With their rich maroon gowns flowing... and the traditional caps, they
looked almost .. as grown up as they felt.

Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away
tears.

This class would NOT pray during the commencements----not by choice, but
because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.

The principal and several students were careful to stay within the
guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging
speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for
blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice, but they were routine.....until the final speech
received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and
silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!

The student on stage.. simply looked at the audience and said, 'GOD BLESS
YOU , each and every one of you!' And he walked off stage...

The audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found a
unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the
court's approval.

This is a true story; it happened at the University of Maryland .

Oh, how I wish THIS one would take off and FILL the whole Country!!!

Mid-week once again....

Wow, it's mid week already and Memorial Day weekend is coming up.  We have no major plans although I am really looking forward to the weather warming up and staying that way.  What a tease the beginning of May was with it's temps in the 80's.  Now we are back down to 50's.  But Sunday, the day of the BBQ is looking to be close to 80.  My niece Winnie will be popping in on Sunday and we will get to meet her new boyfriend Joe.  Yep, it will be nice to hang outside again, even if the pool isn't open yet.  I'm hoping that's on husbands agenda this week too.  So what are eveyone elses plans for this weekend?

Other than that, there's not much new here.  I'm still sorting and putting aside things for the garage sale.  I have yet to get my hanging basket and plants, but I will look around when Kev and I do our errands for materials for this weekend.  We need a can of stain, another can of white paint, a new latch for the gate (the old one broke and is unfixable), and a new weedwacker.  Oh and more floor tiles. Oh and pool chemicals.  Kev says just the list makes him tired.

Well theres still another half hour left before I have to hit the shower, so I'm going to work on my grocery list - need to be careful again this week with $$ at the supermarket.  The list above is pretty costly.  It's surprising how inventive I'm getting with our food budget.  Haven't heard any complaints yet though on the meals I cook.  No one is yelling for steak yet.

Take care everyone --
Deb

Congratulations Teresa!

Photobucket

Teresa and her mom Anne have been a large  part of our family's life since Teresa and Nikki were in the second grade.  They are Forever Friends.  Nik once told me the story of how they became friends and it touched me so to know that they both have such big hearts.

Even in second grade it seems children can sometimes be cruel.  It was a new and growing friendship for Nikki and Teresa at the time.  One day out on the playground they noticed a boy who always seemed to be by himself.  It seems (to put it gently) he did not fit in with the other children and they didn't invite in into their games or to play.  Well Nik and Teresa went right over and made friends with him -- and they keep in touch with him to this very day.  His name was Martin and he spent time here at our home as well.  A sweeter kid you'd have a hard time finding.  Martin eventually moved with his family, time went on and Nik and Teresa's friendship has remained to this day.

I remember nursing her through an upset stomach in my living room, picking her up off the road after she decided she was going to be brave and jump the bike on a ramp (good one hon), yelling at them to be quiet and go to sleep.  Laughing at how Teresa would sniff the boys room to smell their cologne.  I think she had a crush on both of the boys Jaime, and Kevin.  I could go on and on with the memories.  But definately the best part was watching them both grow up.  Not all went smoothly at times of course.  But regardless of it all - their friendship goes on and Teresa is still and will forever remain a part of our family.  Just as Nikki will remain a part of Anne's.

Anne and I became friends through the girls friendship.  It was inevitable -- they were inseparable.  As the years went on they started to travel down different paths, made new friends with others and headed toward different goals.  But never, ever lost touch or their friendship.

Teresa graduated from college on Saturday with a huge ceremony at Proctors Theatre and had her graduation party on Sunday.  It was so rewarding to see the little girl I knew grown into a wonderful woman and celebrating such a fantastic accomplishment.

Saturday

Ok - so the Yankee/Mets game was postphoned due to rain.  Stupid NY weather.  The guys were there, getting soaked and waiting for the verdict when it was announced.  On the bright side though, they did get to spend the day together, tour the stadium, go to Monument Park and in general have a blast.  And of course when the game is rescheduled, they get to do it all over again.

I'm just finishing up my morning coffee and gearig up for laundry and such.  Rain is scheduled for this afternoon, but Daniel will probably work and Nik has the day off to attend her friend Teresa's graduation from Sch'dy Community College.  She and Teresa have been friends since 2nd grade and I love the girl dearly.  I was going to attend as well, but will watch Eric for Nik since Daniel has to work.  Tomorrow I will attend the Graduation Party instead (for which I made the invitations to).  Smile

The week sure did fly by quickly.  Next weekend is Memorial Day weekend already.  We are planning a small BBQ on Sunday for family and friends.  I sure hope the weather cooperates.

There is nothing much else to add, so I'll get on with my laundry duties and wait for the rest of the house to wake up.

Oh and please say some prayers for my friend Dana and her family.  Her little grandson Brighton is in the hospital and in much need of them.  I can imagine how hard it is for Dana with her grandson so ill and he is so far away.  I know all of your prayers and blessing have helped me so many times when I was in need of them.

Enjoy the weekend my friends.

Rested up a bit...

Why is it that a cleaned out purse can make me in such a good mood.  It's as light as a feather, and nice and organized.  For a few days at least.  No more mess to paw through to find something.  Yep - feels good.

We had a wonderful weekend.  Very busy but wonderful just the same.  I hope all of you enjoyed it as well.

Friday night was quiet -- almost like the calm before the storm.  Saturday, Nik and Daniel both had to work, so Kev and I had Eric all day.  By the end of the day when Daniel got home (he got off work first) I could have laid down on the floor and went right to sleep with no problem.
Kevin painted some more, while I tried to keep Eric out of the paint can and dust and vacuum at the same time.  No nap -- I don't think that child ever stays still.  Every muscle in my body was in constant motion all day, except when I sat down to take a few pictures of Kev and Eric throwing grass at each other.  Then we headed out to the bowling alley to meet Kaelynn and Kevin for a few games of bowling.  I went along to watch Eric and take pictures.  I don't think I ever laughed so much in quite awhile to see Kevin and Kev Jr. trying to keep track of those kids.  They were completely frazzled by the end of 2 hours.  Ah -- but the fun was worth it and the time spent with Kae and Kevin was great.

Sunday I shared my Mothers Day with Sir Charles, as he turned 19.  He gave me a card and wrote that he was honored to share his day with me.  It was a day of presents, cake, more presents, and all the family.  There was even a frisbee and football game going on.  We had lasagna for dinner as that's Charlie's favorite dinner.  Kev took me out for my flowers, but we didn't find any that appealed to me at the 3 places we went and because we were running out of time, we will go to a few more places this week.  I'm looking for a full, gorgeous hanging basket for the front porch and the ones I saw were sparse, spindly and half dead.  For 15.98 - I don't think so.  Everyone headed home around 8:00 and I promptly collapsed in my chair and had all I could do to keep awake for awhile.

I don't think I mentioned that for Kevin's birthday (May 2),  he received a ticket to the Yankee/Mets game at Yankee Staduim on the 16th (this Friday).  Little Kev gave him the ticket, as he had 2 tickets and wanted his dad to go with him.  They have talked of nothing since.  Well, for Charlie's birthday, Kev gave him the third  ticket we didn't know he had, so Friday the three of them head to Yankee Stadium.  Charlie was stunned.  It's great because this is the last season at the stadium and they can share it.

I'm putting up a few pictures of the weekend for you all and hope you enjoy them. I'll be around to visit between busy times.  Have a great rest of the week!

Gearing up for the weekend

Things have been busy - with all the birthdays, yard set up for summer (we are going to have lots of kid things this year), and closet and drawer and basement cleaning for the garage sale.  I bought a whale slide pool on Amazon, we have a Sponge Bob Slider that hooks up to the hose for the kids (I bet some of us adults will slide down too, lol).  Kevin is building a sand box.  I have new folding chairs picked ut for the patio table (only 15. each and I need 4), and I am buying 2 chaise lounges for tanning (maybe as the are more expensive.  Oh and the assorted rafts and such for the pool.  We might not be able to afford a vacation this year, but we will have fun in the yard with the kids and friends.  Athough I really would like to find a way to get some extra money so Kevin and I can go a few days to Delaware for our 20th Anniversary in July.  Maybe I'll make good money on the garage sale in June.  We really do need to get away for a bit.

I am going this weekend to pick out flowers for the front porch and side yard.  It's a Mother's Day tradition.  I get to pick - hubby gets to pay.  And I think the kids are taking me for brunch Sunday.  It is also Charlie's 19th birthday - so I have to share the day with him.  That happens every few years and actually its fun.

Saturday we are taking Kaelynn bowling.  They have a 2 hour special with bowling and pizza.  Bowling is in our family's blood, so it's never too soon to get the kids in the swing of it.  Kaelynn will be 4 in June and that is old enough for the Jr. Instructional League.  However her daddy and grandpa want to make sure she is ready for it.  Me, I'm just going to take pictures and chase after Eric since I'll probably be watching him Saturday.  Daniel and Nikki both have to work.

I hope you Mom's out there have a wonderfu day.  I'm hoping the weather is nice, but the forcast doesn't look too promising.  Oh well, you know what they say about NYS -- if you don't like the weather, blink and it'll change.  So who really knows what it will be like.  Take care!

Quick hello

It's a chilly crisp morning and work is very light this morning.  I thought I would take an hour off and go run some errands I have to do so I don'thave to do them after work.  Just waiting for the boss to come back from the dentist.

I had to smile when I read the paper this morning.  It seems the YMCA was going to build a new building for their program, but this morning in the paper they annouced that they would much rather remodel Center City (an empty unused building downtown).  Wonder if someone read my yesterday's blog.  LOL!  Center City has had many uses over the years.  It sits pretty much in the center of our downtown.  It's been a Hockey Rink and I believe a place they held wrestling matches.  Nothing ever quite took there.  I sure hope the Y makes it work.  There are many other empty buildings downtown and there has been a big revitalization there.  It's coming along slowly, but as far as I can tell it's going well.

Anyway - I just wanted to say a quick hello to all just in case I don't get to in the next few days.  There are quite a few projects at home I want to get to and if I don't I'll feel guilty forever.  Also I want to spend a bit of time re-charging my "batteries" so to speak.  While taking care of and worrying about my loved ones, I've been feeling a bit neglectful of my own well-being.   I need a few "Debbie" days.  More than likely, I will be on here, as one of my favorite things to do in the morning is to get on with my coffee and visit my buddies.  I guess you could call that a Debbie thing huh?

Have a great day everyone!
