24 juni Great Cruise! We had a fabulous time on the cruise this year. It was a fun time to share with my children.
We did some yardwork on Saturday and then Nik and I, along with Eric, hit the mall. Nik needed shoes and I still was undecided on what to wear. The men were rolling their eyes at us with all the phone calls and such. Nik needed her makeup done, Jamie needed her dress ironed and had no iron, they kept changing their minds on what they were wearing.... girl stuff. While the men just showered and threw on clothes. It just doesn't seem that big a deal to them about what they are wearing. I changed shirts 3 times and still wasn't satisfied.
Before you get on the boat, there is a photographer who snaps a picture you can buy for 5.00 as a souvenier (sp?). Kev, Charlie and I were in our picture and it now has a place of honor on his refrigerator at his new apartment. We had dinner (prime rib) and took pictures on the deck, danced and had a blast. They played the Cha-cha, the Hustle, we did the twist and the Electric slide --- now that was an experience. Little Kevin can cha-cha like no one else. He added a few of his own moves for good measure. I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. Hubby just stared at him dumbfounded. He said "I didn't know he had it in him." My friend the bartender remembered me from the prevous cruises I've been on (I believe this was my 4th) and he had my drink all ready. I don't like them strong, and the first year I was there I asked if he knew of a drink that that wasn't too sweet and not alot of alcohol. I had a Seabreeze, (Vodka, cranberry juice and grapefruit juice) the juices prevent it from being too sweet. The buses took us from the bowling alley to the cruise and brought us back to the bowling alley.
Nikki's friend Bri and her s/o Johnny watched Eric for us and they did a fabulous job. Bri is going to be a mommy next month so she said she loved the practice. Johnny picked us up at the bowling alley, so there was no danger of anyone driving afterwards. We were all home and in bed by midnight.
Sunday, we had 3 big thunderstorms and lots of rain. Kevin had to drain off some of the pool and he's mad because his chemicals are now messed up and he has to start over.
Charlie called at 8:00 a.m. asking me how to go about grocery shopping. LOL! He was at the grocery store and wanted to know which grocery store was cheapest. I guess he had price shock. The first week he was there I bought him his groceries like I did with the other kids when they got their own place. Then I told them they were on their own.
We headed over to Charlie's new place to measure windows for his curtains. It's very nice and not a studio. It has a pretty decent sized separate bedroom. The living room is small but cozy and the kitchen has a great ceiling fan and window with a little counter underneath..perfect for plants. LOL! Charlie rolled his eyes at the plant idea. Here is Charlie with his dad on his little couch. He doesn't like the green walls so he will be painting that -- loves the rest of the walls in the house.
All in all it was a great weekend to start off the summer. Enjoy the pictures everyone!
19 juni Where did summer go?Will you just look at my weather thingie -- our newspaper reads the same thing.
Eric's evaluation was good news. He will continue in the early intervention program and in the fall change schools to a more intense program (from 2 hours to 5 hours). It's the same one my nephews little girl went to and they praise it highly. I did almost forget about the evaluation, sitting and chatting online with Cindi and working on my number crunching. Had to be home to watch Eric at 1:45 and it was 1:50 when I remembered. Oops -- luckily I only live a mile and a half from work.
I do have to get somewhere to try on things to find something to wear on that dinner cruise. All I have here are jeans and tops -- I'm not a dress up kind of person. Nik's friend Bri is watching Eric so she and Daniel can go and Kevin and Jamie are going as well this year, so it should be fun.
That's about it for this morning -- time to start the day again. I hope you all have a great Thursday!
18 juni Anybody got a beach I can borrow? It's been downright cold here last night and is still this morning. Good thing I didn't pack away my flannel sleep pants and long john shirt. Today isn't expected to hit 70 degrees. Where have I been for the last week? Just busy with things and a bit of being moody enough and not wanting to inflict all that crabbiness on you all. LOL! Seriously though, it's been a whirlwind of a last few days.
We spent this last weekend watching Eric, while Nikki and Daniel worked. He loves being in the yard so it's easy to get things done outside then. He's such a little waterbug that it's a wonder our yard isn't flooded. The pool was vacuumed and it's ready to go, despite the thunderstorms this past weekend. We did spend some of Sunday hanging on the front porch though for a change of scenery.
This weekend we also helped move Charlie into his new studio apartment. Yep you read that right. Charlie was offered a small studio apartment upstairs, at a home his friends dad owns. It's a good sized one as well as in a nice area. It's been very hard to believe my youngest guy has began a journey to be on his own. It happened kind of sudden so I guess I haven't really realized the full impact yet. It's very strange right now to look across at his room and see it empty. Stranger still to be talking of things like dishes and silverware, pots and pans, etc. with Charlie.
I've been digging in the basement as Charlie is requesting things like curtains and such. Also, I'm sorting and repacking the things Jaime left behind when he left for California. He requested that I send a few of his shirts, jackets, two pairs of shoes he misses and I did find his glasses that he lost, so a box is ready to go to him today.
Nikki had to take her car back in for repair to the wheel bearing, so I got the chance again to take Eric to school and back. She had Monday off so getting to work wasn't a problem, and she got the car back just in time for work yesterday, so we got lucky there as well. I have to leave work early today to watch Eric as today is Eric's evaluation to continue in the Early Intervention Program. I'll watch Eric while Nikki and Daniel attend that, then head back to work as it is busy there too. This is Eric's last week at school and then he has two weekes off for the summer before he begins he summer program. We are pretty confident that his services will continue as Nik has talked to his teachers and therapists.
I'm working on bank statements (stupid things never add up). It's those damn Mastercard, Visa and Amex totals that drive me crazy. Also our Sales Tax payment is due out Friday, and that's always a headache as well. It will all get done and I'll be glad to get back to the slow steady pace I've enjoyed.
Did I mention the little things like laundry to be done, dinner to make, grocery shopping to do, house to keep clean, bills to pay, oh ... and finding something nice to wear to the dinner cruise (Kev's bowling banquet) we have on Saturday.
So there you have it! My missing 6 blogging days.......am I stressed? You betcha....I need a beach day. Make that a beach week. Well it's time to get the day going. I'll be by to visit as soon as I can -- but I wanted to let you all know I'm still alive but busy and that I miss ya's...
Have a great day. 11 juni A bit of Energy returnedThe air is cooler finally and for the first time in a few days I actually think I have some energy. We didn't get a tornado (I didn't think we would actually) but there was rain and a thunderstorm - not severe in my neighborhood. There were downed trees and such about 30 miles away, but while the wind did whip the garbage cans around a bit and other unsecured things around the neighborhood, we had no other damage. Hopefully I'll find the same when I get to work.
Everyone enjoy your day -- I'm headed to the shower!
10 juni Surviving -- LOL!Well today is day 4 of this heat wave. Yes Skip - I know that the temps are normal to you in Arizona, but you don't have this blasted humidity. It just sucks all the energy right out of a person. Today is supposed to be the last day, and there are severe thunderstorms predicted as well as a tornado watch from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. (6:00 on some of the newstations). Remember how I said they never can agree?
Well we can add to the fact that our house is not air conditioned. The only one we have is the small one in Eric's room to make it bareable for him - otherwise he would be making it even more unbearable for all of us -- little bugger. He, like everyone can get extra cranky with the heat. Cranky and two year olds don't mix well. We take turns taking him outside in his pool, but the heat is so extreme we can't stay out long. Our pool is finally open, but needs a good vacuum and we needed to put the chemicals in, not to mention a filter hose busted and had to be replaced -- so we havn't been in it yet. We also have to be careful with the fans because Eric is facinated by anything that spins and twirls and wants to put his fingers in the fan. Yep, it's been a hot and crazy week.
We had Kaelynn's 4th birthday party on Sunday. You can see by the pictures, that the kids had no problem with the heat. That water park slide was amazing. The kids didn't want to leave it to open presents and have cake. Although they had no problems leaving it to whack at the pinyata (sp?) with all the candy. Joe - you will enjoy the Spiderman shirt and I bought her Spiderman skates. Our little Mermaid prefers to be a Spiderman.
In other news - Nik finally got the car back yesterday. Yep, Monday. She had to wait the whole weekend afterall. Actually it is Daniel's car, but she uses it to get the baby to school and back so now its much easier for both she and I. All's well that ends well I guess.
On that note, I have to get back to work -- not that I mind, as it's air conditioned here. Keeping an eye on the sky though. My boss told me to scream if I see one coming down the road. Comedian ....
Take care!
05 juni Checking inSo confusing, so many different weather reports, one really doesn't know the weather till it actually happens. One thing they do all agree on though, is that it will start getting HOT tomorrow. Some say scattered rain, some say showers, some say thunderstorms, and some say the rain will actually miss us. Kevin and I had a good laugh last night tring to watch the weather. I'm curious as what the paper will say this morning. My little weather thingie here seems to say thunderstorms for days.
Well regardless of the weather life goes on. Nikki still dosen't have the car back. The guy says Friday. My gut feeling is that because the insurance company isn't paying him what he needs, he has to work on some of the other cars there, where he will make a profit at least. But because he is a friend, he will still do the car for what the insurance company will give him.
I showed Nik the comment from the nice insurance lady and Nik emailed her. We are unsure if she received it, as we have not had an reply, nor any other communication from them. I guess it's all past the point now, as she will have the car, according to Gary the mechancic, tomorrow. That will be a big relief, as like I said we have been scrambling to get little Eric to school and Nik to work.
As for me, I've been a bit tired, and I guess my "older lady" hormones have been playing havoc with my moods. I haven't had much energy lately, so I guess it is time to start taking better care of myself. *Note to self* - schedule appointment for check up today. I am not a "doctor person" and avoid them unless absolutely necessary, so I have a habit of putting off checkups and such. I know, shame on me. I figured if I would put my little memo to myself here, you would all nudge me until I do make the appointment.
Jaime is doing well in CA --- he is working most of the time, but does get to the beach, and did go to Disneyland (it is Disneyland not Disneyworld in Anaheim, right)? He will be flying back to Long Island in July for his best friends wedding. He wants Kevin and I to come visit this month, but financially I don't know if it's possible, so that may have to wait further into the summer. It wasn't someting I planned this summer, but he sounded a bit homesick for family, so my mother instinct kicked into gear and I will do the best I can.
Sunday is Kaelynn's 4th birthday party. It is the "Little Mermaid" theme. I had a good laugh because she wanted a Spiderman theme and her mom was horrified. LOL! Kaelynn your a girl... So she met her halfway and said on the actual day of our birthday, we will have a Spiderman cake and all for just us. I found a Spiderman beachball yesterday at the dollar store. Think she'll like it for the pool? She's too funny.
Well that's about all on my end for now folks. I need to balance my checkbook and read the paper before I get my butt in gear. Yes, I know it's not even 5 a.m., but all is quiet and I can concentrate and I am a morning energy person. I do need one more cup of coffee though before I get to that checkbook, such as it is.
Have a great day everyone. |
