Back for a Minute

I have to apologize for being among the missing.

First off - the family reunion went very well and it felt nice to reminise with my Dad's side of the family that I haven't seen in so long.  They brought back memories of my childhood and reminded me of people I had forgotten about.

Lastly, I'm still trying to come to terms with some family problems, and because I don't want to bring them here, and I have trouble focusing on anything else, I thought maybe I'd just do some visiting on here and say hello to let you all know I am fine.

My vacation had to be changed, due to scheduling problems at Kevin's job, so I am just ploding through the days waiting for that much needed week off.

Take care all - and I'll check in occasionally.

Beach Mood

Not much going on here.  Humidity has finally settled down.  It is warm today but not uncomfortable.

We have decided to change our vacation to the third week in August rather than the first, so that Kevin can bank more of his overtime hours and not lose any pay by taking a full week.  We are taking 1/2 day this Monday and all of Tuesday for the family reunion, so that cuts into his full week.  Now he can make it up.

I thought I would share the a nice beachy poem with you all that I came across while surfing around.  You can't tell I am obsessed with the beach lately can you?

Take care!

Ode To The Sands of a Friendly Beach

Specks of beige, brown, black and white
Shimmering in the sunshine's light
Shifting, sifting, day by day
To make a beach where I too, may
Lie down like you beside the sea
And briefly bask in eternity.
Share with me this peaceful hour.
Share with me your tranquil power.

Steamin' Hot Monday

It's 7:50 a.m. and muggy 71 degrees already.  It will get up to and maybe beyond 96 today - as you can see by the weather thingie I put on.  Whew -- glad I'm in the air conditioning at work most of the day.

Not much to say today - it was a hot, muggy, quiet weekend.  Spent most of the time in the pool or in the cool house.

Nik has a job interview tomorrow so cross your fingers for her.  It's for a data entry position and I know she is great with computers.   Then we will be dealing with daycare.  That's what scares me.  But Charlie used to go to the Rainbow Daycare when he was little.  They are great there and he loved it.  So hopefully there will be an opening.  Otherwise my niece will watch him for a bit to help her out.  We will absolutely not put him somewhere we don't know.  A family member is the best.

Someone sent this to me so I thought I would share it.  Meanwhile all of you have a great Monday.  I'll be visiting to check out how everyone's weekend went.

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT?

(taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of her own.  They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man grandmother.

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also Why we shouldn't step on "cracks."

They don't say, "Hurry up."

Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don't have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?".

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6 YEAR OLD WAS ASKED WHERE HIS GRANDMA LIVED. ''OH,'' HE SAID, ''SHE LIVES AT THE AIRPORT, AND WHEN WE WANT HER WE JUST GO GET HER. THEN WHEN WE'RE DONE HAVING HER VISIT, WE TAKE HER BACK TO THE AIRPORT.''

It's funny when they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog."

Darn, Darn, Darn!

Well this little airhead got her weeks mixed up so the family reunion isn't until next weekend.  (Secretly I believe my father did tell me the 17th!)  But when I called last night to see if everything was set and if he needed anything, he said "no Deb, it's next weekend".  Grrrrr  - I was looking forward to it.

It's going to be in the 90's for the next couple of days.  You all will find me sleeping in the pool.  Hope your weekend is awesome!

Still Raining in Upstate NY

Two days of cloudy, rainy weather here and not even and gorgeous thunderstorms to go with it.

Kevin and I are headed up to my Dad's on Monday afternoon and returning on Tuesday afternoon.  He is having a reunion with his two sisters, one from Long Island (Marianne) and the other from Florida (Barbara -who is my godmother).  It is unbelievable that I have not seen them in almost 30 years.  Believe me, I am not exagerating.  My son Jaime was not even a twinkle in my eye and he is 27 now.

It will be so good to see them again.  We were once all very close.  After my mom passed away, and we moved out of Jersey, we eventually lost touch with my dad's side of the family.  I did stay with my Uncle Ray (my Dad's brother) in Glendale, CA for a few months before moving back east.  My grandmother was staying there also at the time.  But that is the last contact I have had with my dad's family at all.  It will be nice to get away for a day as well.  My dad lives "in the boonies" - on a mountain in Bleeker, New York.  It's beautiful and quiet there.

This weekend is also the Festa at Mt. Carmel church in our neighborhood.  We are planning to take Eric on Saturday.  They have great food and we usually see alot of people we know.  A fun time for all.   I guess that will be the sum of the upcoming days.

I'm online helping Nikki seek out jobs.  I'll be leaving early today to take her to the Doctor's office so Eric can get his shots. Meanwhile I really would like to visit some of my friends and see what's new.  Sooooo -- Adios till later!

Full Moon Tonight

WoW - Is it me or did the Spaces Fonts get larger??  I don't like it.  Stop messing with things Spaces People.

Another great thunderstorm at 5:00 a.m. -- Can you all tell I like thunderstorms?

It's the end of the work day and I'm looking forward to getting home.  A trip to the grocery store first though and then I can "chill" -- LOL!  It's 86 degrees today.  I don't think chill is the word.

I hope you are all having a great day.

I love full moons -- there is a full moon tonight.  I'll be skywatching.  Andrew Chaikin from AOL Nightsky pretty much sums up my feelings:

"We skywatchers have an ongoing romance with the Moon, and our nearest celestial neighbor never seems more alluring than when it’s round and bright. For me, the rising full Moon is so compelling, so magical, that I have to stop whatever I’m doing to look at it. There’s something spectacularly different about the sight of that brilliant, seemingly enormous orb hovering among the clouds, as if it were located somewhere in the outer reaches of Earth’s atmosphere — or, perhaps, in a gigantic storybook illustration."

Monday Afternoon

Hello my friends

It's late afternoon and a beautiful afternoon as well.  That's what the weather has been like for awhile - with the addition of a beautiful thunderstorm last night.

I got quite a scare this morning.  I get news alerts in my email and one came in about a building explosion in Manhattan.  Have you ever literally felt your heart stop?.  I really think I did.  They were not giving many details and with Jaime in Manhattan I was scared to death.  Luckily he had his Instant Message open on the computer and after a few heart stopping moments he finally answered that he was allright.  The building was on 62nd street and he lives on 46th.  BUT - his job is on 61st Street.  Check it out here.

Nichole is doing better after a few rough spots this weekend.  Eric had three teeth on the top cut through this weekend at the same time.  And he stood up by himself without holding on to anything.  (Heart stopped again).  Poor heart of mine.

I thought I would make spaghetti tonight as it does not seem like it would be too hot to cook.   Besides I'm getting a tad bit tired of hamburgers and grill stuff.

I really do need a vacation - a day or two at the beach really sounds nice.  I don't see it happening, but hey - a girl can dream can't she?

Time for a "Space Change" as I call it, so I'll end now and see if I can find something cheerful for a background.  Maybe a few new pictures will perk it up.  I feel so neglectful of my space which is sad because it and your friendships mean a lot to me.

Still here

Today is Thursday - things are still a big unsettled. My mind is so jumbled by the events in my family and it's hard to focus on anything else.  The need to keep working and doing my job is taking most of my energy and at home, taking one day at a time takes the rest of it.

I think just a few quick visits to you all would be in order as I miss you all.

I also didn't get to do the Fourth of July Guestbook signing and I'm disappointed about that, but I will visit all the spaces that stopped by here with a greeting and a thank you.

Nichole and the baby are fine - they are loved and safe with us.  Send her your love and prayers.  Daniel has left her and the baby and Nikki is struggling with it.  All will be well eventually but it will take time.

So till later - Take care and I  hope you all are enjoying your summer.  We are mostly chillin at the pool ...
