29 août Making MemoriesMy friend Hearts told of a wonderful walk she had with her daughter recently and it reminded me of my alone times with my own children. Important times - making memory times. I remember when they were newborns - the "middle of the night" feedings. How I loved to watch them just breathe, the faces they made, how they smelled so soft. And during the day I would watch them for hours as they learned to interact with the world. How excited they were by the simplest things. I miss those times so much. How lucky I am, to be able to experience them once again with my grandson. I sometimes wonder if grandchildren are God's reward to us for the hair raising teen years. I remember the tears flowing as they entered kindergarden - I was ok for pre-school, as it was only an hour or two. But Kindergarden was a major step in my eyes. And how grown-up they looked. I sobbed the whole time they were gone. I remember their great big smiles as they got ready and a little bit of hesitation in their step as they walked into the classroom. And the little bit of fear when I hugged them goodbye. (I feel like sobbing now just remembering it). But hey - I cry at McDonald's commericals - (you know the one where the big brother brings the little sister to MacDonalds)? As my little ones grew, my times alone with each one spread far and few between, as the busy life of a mom with a full time job and 4 children (5 if you include the hubby), became packed full of responsibility. I look back now and wish I'd had more time with them. I mean I wish they hadn't grown up so very fast. My favorite times with Nichole now that she is older and a mom herself are still our "girls day out" -- we've had them for years, being the only two females in a household of 4 men. Both she and I learned many things about each other and the changing world during our "girls day". As the "boy kids" grew older and their interests varied, I had to adapt myself to giving up some of the quiet times we spend alone and "get noisy". It was switched to mom playing Mario Brothers on the video with Charlie. We had some great times doing that. I was better than Dad as he would jump into the holes rather than over them. Then there were driving lessons for the older boys (hair raising but so fun). Hubby was never a fan of theatres, so Jamie and I went to the movies. Needless to say, the older my cildren became and the busier I became, the "alone" time lessened. How I wish I could go back and change that. I miss my kids being kids. Children are such a joy - (oops, I typed job instead, LOL). Well, I guess they are a job also, but mostly a joy. Now I get to enjoy my grandbaby! I just know he will grin and wiggle when he see's me get home tonight. 28 août Stress Test!Well - I'm back from vacation! Very busy today. Tons and Tons of work. I just wanted to say hello and let you all know I'm doing fine. Besides, it's great to be back on my computer at work instead of the one at home. It nearly drove me crazy.
I am not sure exactly how it works, but this stress test is amazingly accurate. Read the description before looking at the picture.
The picture below has 2 identical dolphins in it. It was used in a case study on stress levels at St. Mary's Hospital. Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical. A closely monitored, scientific study revealed that, in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress would find differences in the two dolphins. The more differences a person finds between the dolphins, the more stress that person is experiencing. Look at the photograph and if you find more than one or two differences you may want to take a vacation. In the meantime - I'm BACK on vacation! LOL!
24 août Quiet MomentYep - I finally have a quiet moment to sit down and say a quick hello. Kevin is out doing some yardwork, Nikki, Daniel and Eric went out to lunch and errands and Charlie went with Kevin Jr. to bring Jamie and baby Kaelyn to Long Island to visit her brother. Ahhhh, alone at last.
Today is Nikki's birthday (19th) and her requested dinner is pot roast, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn - and an ice cream cake. She wanted to go and show off her new clothes so Daniel took her to lunch. She's so happy that she is a size 9 now -- and she really looks great.
I'm adding a few pictures from our Waterslide World visit yesterday. We had such a great time and it was great to have both grandchildren with us. We stopped on the way home at Kevin's mom's so she could see the babies and have some of her great sausage and peppers.
Tonight is birthday cake and just lounging around cause we are all so tired out from yesterday. I hope everyone is having a great week. And no, I'm not looking forward to going back to work right yet. I thought I would miss it, but no way. I think I'll go get out the calendar and see how many years/weeks/days till retirement!
Till later! Just click on the pictures to make them bigger!
18 août It's Friday!I know most everyone is looking forward to the weekend. I'm looking forward to the next 9 whole days. I just came on to add a few pictures and to take my vacation banner off and put on something else. Otherwise the vacation banner will just say "expired".
I woke up at 4:30 this morning, and my thoughts must have been waiting for me to wake up because they started up immediately and any hope of dozing back off was immediately elimiated. *sigh - and the paperman hadn't even delivered the newpaper yet. It was kinda nice though. Fresh coffee and a quiet neighborhood.
I was thinking this morining as I waited for my paper, I do live in a nice neighborhood. Granted, there has been some vandalism and loud mouth kids causing trouble, but they are the ones coming through from other neighborhoods. Living there 10 years I've gotten to know almost all on my street and a few on the next street. My kids have grown up with their kids and even the retired and elderly are the greatest. They know my kids and ask about them often. We watch out for each other and I love that. I see the new families moving in as some house go up for sale. Now that my kids and their friends have grown up "so to speak", a whole new group of kids have sprouted up and play up and down the streets. One of mine and Kevin's favorite spots (besides the pool) is to sit on the front porch for awhile each evening.
When we moved to the house, the porch was enclosed. When we had it sided, we also had the porch redone to an open air one. It's how we got to know our neighbors by sitting out front on the porch, before we redid the yard with the pool and such.
Ok - I'm done babbling on. Everyone enjoy the weekend and I'll catch you at least once during the week of my vacation! Don't forget me! ![]() 17 août Almost Time!Today and tommorow - just enough time to prepare for my absence from the office. Yipeeee!
Today is such a beautiful day it had me wishing I had today off. I was up early and opened a few more windows to let the cool breeze in, turned on the fans etc. And when the sun came up it was shining brightly and the sky was so blue. Eric was awake and ready to go, so I decided to give Nikki a break and let her sleep. I put him in the walker and he followed me around the house with my morning routine, babbling and yelling. It was nice to have someone to talk to in the morning. I had my sneakers on so he couldn't run over my toes with his walker. He thinks that's pretty funny. Anyway, I'm hoping that my week off is just like today is. Kevin put the solar cover on the pool so it would be warm for this weekend. With the cooler temps it wasn't warm enough for the baby to go in.
Anyway - I do have a computer at home. Slow it may be, but I will use it anyway, because I can't stay away from my friends for a full 9 days. So, between Waterslide World, the beach, Miniature Golf, Shopping, Lunches and movies, I will check in to see what you are all up to. For now I must get back to work. Till later... Meanwhile, all grandma's can check out this post at my friend Sal's place. I tried to do a trackback but I failed miserably. The post you want is her August 17 post!
15 août Busy Day TodayEveryone must be as busy as I am today. Here is something to make you all smile. It's about time for me to head home shortly. Of course my boss has decided I need to call American Express to see if we can consolidate our 3 Amex cards into one and save some Membership and Annual Fees. (I don't know why he has 3 company cards in the first place plus a company Visa). So I will probably use the rest of my time till 4:00 on the phone listening to hold music. Till tomorrow!
Court Docket COURT DOCKET 12659----CASE OF THE PREGNANT LADY A lady about eight months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her. She immediately moved to another seat. This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again. The man seemed more amused. When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing. She complained to the driver and he had the man arrested. The case came up in court. The judge asked the man (about 20) what he had to say for himself.
The man replied, "Well your Honor, it was like this: When the lady got on the bus, I couldn't help but notice her condition. She sat under a sign that said, "The Double Mint Twins are coming" and I grinned. Then she moved and sat under a sign that said, "Slogan's Liniment will reduce the swelling" and I had to smile. Then she placed herself under a sign that said, "William's Big Stick Did the Trick" and I could hardly contain myself. BUT your Honor, when she moved the fourth time and sat under a sign that said, "Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident...I just lost it."
"CASE DISMISSED" 14 août Talkin About Football! It's a beautiful Monday morning - not too hot and the sun is out. Here I sit at my desk, wishing I was out in it. It was a quiet weekend. I did alot of kitchen cleaning. Scrubbing baseboards and window sill (and discovering they really should be painted). Enjoyed the day by the pool, and even watched some football.
Go San Diego Chargers!
My Chargers won against the Packers 17 to 3!
There is not much else happening around here. I'm trying to plan a few day things for us to do during our vacation. A trip to Waterslide World is on the agenda so far, and I want to try to get in a day at a beach. If I had the money I would say lets drive to the Jersey Shore for a day or two, but the piggy bank is practically empty and the bill collectors wouldn't understand. My parents used to own a house in Tom's River, NJ (which is ouside of Seaside Heights), but my dad sold it after my mom passed away. We had such fun in that house as kids.
I'm off to do some visiting. 4 more workdays till vacation! Yipeee! 11 août Have a GREAT Weekend!Yea! It's finally Friday. We will probably spend another weekend by the pool to save money, but it's so fun I don't mind. I'm hoping to set a little money aside to have a few beach days on our vacation. I would love to see Eric at the beach.
Have to get going on my passport. Because I was born in Hudson County in New Jersey, I have to get a new birth certificate, so that will take time in itself. I guess they uncovered a woman who was selling birth certificates to illegals. Now if you want a passport and were born in Hudson County, EVERYONE, must get a new one. My cost: 45.00 ! I'm insulted that I have to pay for a new one when I have my original one. I didn't commit the crime for pete's sake. They should be free. I didn't know about that until last night, so I'm going to have to hurry to get it done. I have my original birth certificate so I thought I was all set. My luck, huh?
My father-in-law sent me this and made me laugh this morning. The title of it was "Real Newspaper Ads"…. I liked the last one myself.
AND THE BEST ONE:
9 août Wow - Wednesday Already? This week is just flying by! My banner says differently, but there are only 7 more WORK days left till my weeks vacation. I am patiently waiting. Actually the whole summer seems to be flying by - can you believe it is August already?
Work has been very busy as the accountant is here this week, getting us ready for our end of the year which is September 30th. This is where he comes along and finds all my mistakes.
Speaking of mistakes, I am quite the airhead today. I decided to drive to the grocery store on my lunch and save myself the trip after work. I got there and realized I had used my last check yesterday and forgot to put new ones in my checkbook last night. Anyone ever had that happen? Well let's just say it wasn't my first time - at least this time I didn't have a full cart of food at the checkout.
I guess I am starting to get used to this new MSN. I keep learning something new everyday. I did put the friends thingie up, but I don't know if I want to keep it. My friends "list" suits my purposes well enough without the added memory use. But I'll keep it a few more days, just to see if I change my mind about it.
Dinner tonight will be hot dogs and burgers and salad, but tomorrow I'm making chili (in the crock pot) and cornbread. I've been hungry for chili lately. I can use the leftovers for chili dogs this weekend.
I've been feeling much better lately and family problems are leveling off. I want to thank all of you my friends for being patient with my absence and for all your kind words and support. I have learned after all these years that I am an isolated type of person when I am hurt or angry (or both). In my head I know that I don't have to be, that I have people I can confide in or talk to, but in my heart I tend to keep my hurt under wraps. My friend "Hearts" sent me a prayer that helped alot. Thank you again my friend.
Eric continues to grow by leaps and bounds -- he is such a happy and funny baby. I think he will be a race car driver the way he gets around in his walker. His little legs get going so fast over my hardwood dining and living room floors that we can hardly keep up with him ourselves. Put him on the grass and he immediately crawls full speed toward the pool (don't worry, we have an above ground pool, so he can't fall in - as well as we are all outside when he is).
Ok - enough of my rambling. I really, really need to do some visiting here. Oh - BTW - my books did come and I've already finished one. Ready to start on another. I'm in book heaven for now!
7 août WoW - I'm so Excited!
CarolDee liked my space enough to add it to her SpaceWalk Spaces Highlights! And they did a great job. The picture used is so perfect. Reading at the beach - Looking at the picture just gives me such a feeling of peace and contentment - which is what I feel when I am at the beach. Thanks so much CarolDee --- Click here everyone to go see! And it's also a great space to find other great spaces. We had a wonderful weekend with Jaime home. As soon as I finish this I will add some pictures. I didn't get many because my camera wasn't charged, (grrrrrrrr, airhead me!) but there are one or two. Jaime took the Metro train from Manhatten to Poughkeepsie. Kevin Sr. and my nephew Kurt picked Jaime up in Poughkeepsie at 2:00 a.m. (otherwise he would have had to wait till 8:00 a.m.) He wanted to have the whole day Saturday rather than break up the day by traveling. So they got home at about 3:30 and went right to bed. We spent the day by the pool and had a cookout. Kevin Jr. came over with Kaelynn and Jamie (we call her Jamie - girl when my son Jaime is home). Otherwise it can get quite confusing. Nik was there with Eric and Daniel. Of course Sir Charles (that's one of my nicknames for my youngest, because he is the spoiled youngest). It was wonderful to have all my kids together again, as well as my grandchildren and my sisters grandchildren as well. We had kids all over the place. I LOVED IT! Sunday was quiet and Jaime went to visit a few friends before he went back. It will be a long time before he gets 2 days off in a row again. My books still haven't come from Doubleday. The only way I made it through the weekends was with the help of my Coastal Living Magazine and all the people over at the house. But I did miss my Sunday evening, curl in the chair with my book night. They did send me an email telling me the books shipped on August 3 - which tells me nothing since I don't know how long it takes as it's my first order. Well, I guess I'll do a little visiting since it's almost time to go home. Looks a little like rain so I probably won't get a dip in the pool today. I'll let ya know. Take care! Oh - Just click on the photo's to make them larger.
4 août Heat is easing up a bitIt's finally Friday! I didn't thing I'd make it.
Jaime is coming home for the weekend from Manhatten so I have that to look forward to. More pool fun also with Eric. And, a little deep houscleaning added to the mix. That's the sum of my weekend folks.
We did get some great news yesterday though. Little Kevin and his fiance Jamie are having another little one. She had her ultrasound yesterday and it's a little boy. Kevin is so excited. He said "Dad! Now we have one of each so we can stop now"
Well off I go to finish up my work and do some visiting. I am still exploring this new SPACES thing though. I keep trying to add a little here and there while I'm exploring. I'm finally getting the hang of HTML Codes. (patting myself on the back here)....
HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND!
2 août It's an oven out there!Hot! Hot! Hot! - I bet it is everywhere else also. Right now I'm sitting in air conditioning, so it doesn't bother me much. But since we have no air conditioning at home (unless you count the huge one full of water in our yard) - I am hardly anxious to head home. I went and joined that Doubleday Bookclub a few days ago. You would think that since I paid for the Shipping and handling with my credit card, they would ship the books right out. But nooooooooo - I'm still waiting and have nothing to read. I'll be darned if I'm going to go out and buy a new book with six of them on the way. Hurry books! This looks great on a HOT day!
