    TO MY DAUGHTER NIKKI

This was given to me by a good friend -- I in turn pass it to you Nik.  I love you!

    For Moms and Grandmoms

Before I was a Mom - I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom - I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Spit on. Chewed on. Peed on.  I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom - I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests. Or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom - I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom - I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom - I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

And before I was a Grandma, I didn't know that all those "Mom" feelings more than doubled when you see that little bundle being held by 'your' baby...

Remember that behind every successful mother...... Is a basket of dirty laundry.

I absolutely loved comming across this poem on your space! I had to borrow it for my space for my daughter. It is so very true and touched my heart, and then I read the part about being a grandma and it was as if my heart melted right there! I absolutely adore my grandchildren!
I also want to say that I love your space and have stopped in several times to "look" around. Love your links, too! Thanks again for the great poem!

That is awesome, I'm gonna have to steal it and email it out to some people! It really is true, our priorities change so much after baby is born....and they change some again as we have more (not speaking from experience here as I only have the one, no more babies coming to this house, sniff, sob)

It isn't much different here $wise than it is at home to put them in a private school, and the advantages are evident. I have a cousin at home who has both of hers in private school, one of the biggest motivating factors for her was that the private school still has an intensive music program(we all grew up in musical households)....when you pay for the education you seem to have more input too.

Here we may have been able to put her in the public school (at a nominal fee and she would have been the only caucasian kid) but the standards there are horrendous and it is overcrowded and somewhat out of control, not a good start in my opinion, esp if/when we return to civilization....that could be a recipe for disaster!

hope your enjoying the new grandson!

    have a great one

    c u round!

I love your "Before I Was A Mom". How special those words are. Others don't know what they are missing to be a Mom and A Grandmother.
So right in how we feel about our Grandchildren. We are blessed to have one Grandson. Better known as Cutie Wutie.

Haha! We both love the candy! I always liked all the different gum flavors. One year we were in the "rich" neighborhood and a guy dressed up started running after us! We ran and jumped in the van and locked the doors just in time - he tried to open the doors and was shaking the van! We were all scared to death! My Mom and Aunt were with us and it even scared them. I think the guy had a baseball bat with him if I remember correctly. What a creep! I still have to ask Faith what she wants to dress up as. I'm sure she'll say princess again. :)
